Star date: 8th February 2015

BEZ AND FIROUZEH GO JOHN AND YOKO FOR CAMPAIGN BED-IN – AS BLACK GRAPE RE-UNITE FOR ALL STARS MANCHESTER REALITY PARTY GIG

All this week, Salford Reality Party candidate Mark `Bez' Berry and partner Firouzeh Razavi are re-enacting the John and Yoko bed-in for peace – except this time it's against fracking, Bedroom Tax, TTIP and more; while having special guests along to show how a better world is possible.

Meanwhile, on 11th April, the incredible Black Grape, featuring Shaun Ryder, Kermit et al, are re-uniting for a special Reality Party fundraising gig at the old Granada Studios.

This week Salford goes to London, to the swank The Montcalm at the Brewery London City hotel, as Bez and partner Firouzeh Razavi launch a seven day live-streamed bed-in, re-enacting the famous John and Yoko bed-in of yesteryear.

Bez's Bed-In is being supported by John Lennon's son, Sean, whose mum Yoko wrote the Don't Frack My Mother anthem, which eventually led to New York State banning fracking recently. Organisers are hoping that Yoko will appear via Skype at some point during the week, while Sean is expected to be in the bed boogeying along to the track at some point.

"The Bed-In is going to highlight loads of campaigns" says Jackie Anderson, Bez's running mate in the General Election, standing for Worsley and Eccles South while the former Happy Mondays star stands for Salford and Eccles.

"We've got live and recorded broadcasts with lots of different people coming in giving interviews and participating in the bed" she explains "As well as Sean Lennon, we've got anti-fracking campaigner Brian Monk from New Zealand, Vivienne Westwood and her son Joe Corre who does Talk Fracking. There's the Nanas from Lancashire, Barton Moss campaigners, there's extracts from Gaslands being shown and people are coming from all the different anti-fracking campaigns around the country.

"We've also got Coffee4Craig, from Salford talking about homelessness and we've got people from the anti-Bedroom Tax campaigns" she adds "We've got the positive side too, like solar power experts coming in and people talking about permaculture. We're hoping to get Artist Taxi Driver to drop by and we've got Steve Spy talking about legal things and maybe Darren Nesbit will come up. There'll be loads of fun things happening. It is a Reality Party event but it's all about collaboration because that's the way we want to work."

Ace Salford poet JB Barrington is also doing some poems via Skype on Friday 13th and other guests will be announced during the week.

Bez's Bed-In begins Monday night at 9pm and there will be a live show every night this week at that time featuring discussions, debates and entertainment on The Reality Party YouTube channel http://www.BezInBed.co.uk/

People can submit questions for the live Q and A via the Facebook event page Bez's Bed In – click here

Or Tweet questions to @Reality_Party using the #BezInBed hashtag

The Salford Star will also be covering the event and will hopefully be doing an interview with Bez via Skype at some point in the week.

Just a sec, it says on the realitypartysalford.co.uk website, under candidates: "Mark Berry (Bez) Iconic Manchester member of the Happy Mondays." I thought the emphasis was on Salford (and Eccles) - Wikipedia says HM were a Salford band (so they must be, right?) - are Peel secretly funding this new force for political change?

In reply to john johnson, from Electoral Commission: "A party must have its party name, party description(s) and party emblem(s) registered with us in order to use them on a ballot paper. In order to receive a decision from the Commission before the deadline for nominations for the elections in May 2015 you should ensure that we have received a complete application by Friday 27 February 2015." So, there's still time... I suggest a better name for the party would be "Bez's Normality Party" - that should save any confusion...???

Former Happy Mondays dancer Mark "Bez" Berry announced his intention to contest the constituency at the 2015 election under the label of the Reality Party. However, the Electoral Commission ruled the party's registration was invalid as their name was too similar to that of an existing party. As the party failed to respond to the Commission's request for the party to choose a new name, they were de-registered in January 2015.

It's great to see how passionate Bez is about our environment, and speaks from the heart, my sincerest best wishes for everything The Reality Party are doing to try and educate common folk about fracking and permaculture. The reformation of Black Grape playing a Reality Party event at the old Granada TV Studios on Quay Street is the icing on the cake and is going to be the highlight of 2015 for a lot of folk up and down the country, fantastic news! 🏭

SALFORD STAR – 15 YEARS OF ATTITUDE AND LOVE XXX

The Salford Star closes tonight after 15 years of giving the community a voice, holding power to account and bigging up all the great things that have happened in the city.

Thousands of people in Salford have been involved in one way or another with the Star and we'd like to thank them all. Salford is a very special city and, hopefully, we've given it a very special community publication.

SALFORD STAR CLOSURE: HOW SALFORD COUNCIL TRIED TO BLOCK AND DISCREDIT THE STAR

Star date: 17th May 2021

THREATS, LIES, FEAR AND LOATHING IN SALFORD...

Today, the Salford Star shuts down but we write this article as a warning to others who may follow on the pitfalls of founding a genuine publication that aims to give the community a voice and hold public bodies up to account.

They will try to discredit you, block information and shut you down. Here the Salford Star editor, Stephen Kingston, looks at how democracy perished badly under the Salford mayoral system.

A WHIFF OF FREEDOM AS RESTRICTIONS ARE EASED

Salford has 7 new coronavirus cases, down from the previous day's 14, while the seven day rate per 100,000 population now stands at 30.1, down from 30.9. There have been no new virus-related deaths announced by Salford Royal Hospital.

Today sees restrictions eased and the first whiff of freedom in over a year. It's also the final coronavirus bulletin from the Salford Star which is closing. Here we look back over 14 months of the pandemic and the absolute communication failings of Salford City Council and its City Mayor.

THEY WILL TRY TO DISCREDIT YOU...TO BLOCK YOU, TO SHUT YOU DOWN

We are almost at the final closure of the Salford Star but we write this article as a warning to others who may follow on the pitfalls of founding a genuine publication that aims to give the community a voice and hold public bodies up to account.

They will try to discredit you, block information and shut you down. In South America they just blow up the offices of journalists that don't play the game. Here they just financially assassinate you...

SALFORD STAR CLOSURE – GUY GRIFFITHS ON THE HUMAN COST OF PATHFINDER DEMOLITIONS

Star date: 16th May 2021

THE HUMAN COST OF REGENERATION

The Griffiths brothers of Higher Broughton are kind of infamous as the only people to be forcefully evicted from their house as part of the Pathfinder 'housing market renewal' project during the first decade of the 21st Century.

Here, Guy Griffiths, now living in 'sunny' north Wales and one of the main inspirations for the Salford Star's creation, writes the second part his own personal view of the Government project that devastated communities throughout Central Salford.
