Salford City College, in Walkden, is currently caring for its latest arrivals as part of its role running a foster scheme for pet charity Blue Cross. Alfie, Chester, Billy-Bob, George and Benny – a litter of five kittens found abandoned in Moston - will be looked after by students at the College until homes can be found.
These kittens are meowing proof of a kitten crisis that Blue Cross is warning will get worse unless owners neuter their pets. Nationally, Blue Cross is taking in an average of five unwanted and abandoned kittens every day.
"Every year we see a rise in the number of unwanted kittens needing a new home" says Michelle Smith, Blue Cross Regional Fostering Manager "Sadly, we expect we will be needed to help even more in the weeks and months to come. We ask all cat owners to make sure their pet is neutered to stop this rise in unwanted kittens."

Billy-Bob - a `playful young kitten would love a home with a family who will give him all the attention he needs, play with him and help him to grow into a lovely adult cat'.
All animals at the Blue Cross centre are given a full `MOT' before being passed to new owners and they are microchipped, neutered, wormed and vaccinated.
