This month is the Salford Star's eighth birthday – eight years since the magazine first appeared in May 2006…with attitude and love xxx

Between May 2006 and Autumn 2008 eight issues of the Star were produced, giving the community a voice, holding public bodies up to account, digging up real Salford heritage, bigging up top Salford talent and lots, lots more.

During its life in print the Salford Star won numerous awards including Magazine of the Year (How Do), Best Regional Newspaper (Plain English Campaign), the Millennium Award (UnLtd) and the Salford Lotta Bottle Award (Studio Salford), plus runner up in the Paul Foot Award for Investigative Journalism (Private Eye).

When the Star went online in 2009 it continued to win awards and over two thousand articles and big exclusive stories were produced (this one is number 2284!) covering daily happenings in the city, from the Hazel Blears expenses scandal to the Salford Riots to the Barton Moss anti-fracking protests.

The Salford Star will continue its incredible online presence - which this spring saw well over 100,000 monthly readers – while at the same time producing a print issue at the beginning of September.

"Thanks to the incredible support from Salford's community we are now, at last, able to reappear in print" says Salford Star editor Stephen Kingston "We'd like to thank everyone who has donated towards achieving this goal (we'd love to name some of them but their modesty is blazing). The aim has always been to come out in print again – to reach those people in the community for whom the digital divide is as wide as the wealth divide.

"The more advertising and financial support we get, the more issues we will produce and the more copies we will print" he adds "And we would urge anyone who wants to help out with writing, photography, ad sales, fundraising or anything else to get in touch, to help make this re-launch a major success."

The Salford Star will appear at the beginning of September 2014 as a tabloid magazine, with an initial print run of 20,000 copies, delivered free to homes, businesses, shops, community centres and on the streets across the city.

Advertising rates range from £600 for a full page to £40 for a sixteenth of a page (see ad rate card). There are also £30 `plaques' available wishing the Star `good luck' (or whatever!)…

Pity no leaflet investigating Union new memberships joining Salford Labour during the last year. Rumors from UKiP is a lefty union is all out to put their woman in the Salford MP selection seat. Do Labour members think they wont get shafted by the union?

What absolutely fabulous news. That will put the wind up "The Salford Council". It will make a nice change to read a publication in Salford that is based on "Fact" instead of "Fabricated Propaganda". Long live "The Salford Star".

Good news Salford Star. As long as you are publishing whether on line or in print we are better informed. As a voice of the people you are an important service for us all. Truth in the Media is sadly disappearing. I can promise to assist you in a mundane way, such as delivering, in September. Let the money roll in too.

But what now will happen to the Stars great and mighty rival, Salford councils own rag of lies and spin the "Life IN Salford"? Will it's life expire now it has a journalistic superior? I doubt it the councils PR spin machine already ensure that the "Life" sh*t is read by EVERY household in Salford and it will continue, probably with an increased budget. Best of luck to the Star but it's Star V's Goliath.

SALFORD STAR – 15 YEARS OF ATTITUDE AND LOVE XXX

The Salford Star closes tonight after 15 years of giving the community a voice, holding power to account and bigging up all the great things that have happened in the city.

Thousands of people in Salford have been involved in one way or another with the Star and we'd like to thank them all. Salford is a very special city and, hopefully, we've given it a very special community publication.

SALFORD STAR CLOSURE: HOW SALFORD COUNCIL TRIED TO BLOCK AND DISCREDIT THE STAR

Star date: 17th May 2021

THREATS, LIES, FEAR AND LOATHING IN SALFORD...

Today, the Salford Star shuts down but we write this article as a warning to others who may follow on the pitfalls of founding a genuine publication that aims to give the community a voice and hold public bodies up to account.

They will try to discredit you, block information and shut you down. Here the Salford Star editor, Stephen Kingston, looks at how democracy perished badly under the Salford mayoral system.

A WHIFF OF FREEDOM AS RESTRICTIONS ARE EASED

Salford has 7 new coronavirus cases, down from the previous day's 14, while the seven day rate per 100,000 population now stands at 30.1, down from 30.9. There have been no new virus-related deaths announced by Salford Royal Hospital.

Today sees restrictions eased and the first whiff of freedom in over a year. It's also the final coronavirus bulletin from the Salford Star which is closing. Here we look back over 14 months of the pandemic and the absolute communication failings of Salford City Council and its City Mayor.

We are almost at the final closure of the Salford Star but we write this article as a warning to others who may follow on the pitfalls of founding a genuine publication that aims to give the community a voice and hold public bodies up to account.

They will try to discredit you, block information and shut you down. In South America they just blow up the offices of journalists that don't play the game. Here they just financially assassinate you...

SALFORD STAR CLOSURE – GUY GRIFFITHS ON THE HUMAN COST OF PATHFINDER DEMOLITIONS

Star date: 16th May 2021

THE HUMAN COST OF REGENERATION

The Griffiths brothers of Higher Broughton are kind of infamous as the only people to be forcefully evicted from their house as part of the Pathfinder 'housing market renewal' project during the first decade of the 21st Century.

Here, Guy Griffiths, now living in 'sunny' north Wales and one of the main inspirations for the Salford Star's creation, writes the second part his own personal view of the Government project that devastated communities throughout Central Salford.
