The most imposing building on Great Cheetham Street in Higher Broughton once housed a carpet warehouse and meat market before being left derelict for years. About a year ago, it re-birthed with a pale blue exterior and is now the site of Jump In Jacks children's play centre.
Now, for Bank Holiday Monday, Jacks is being opened up for the community with a free Family Fun Day, complete with face painting, henna, arts and crafts, competitions, baby clothes stalls and more, including the use of the soft play area for £1 instead of the normal £3.50.
"We're doing this, not to make money but to publicise ourselves and become more a pillar of the community" says Lucy Matthews, Jump In Jacks' Marketing Assistant "We've been running for a year and people are driving here from Prestwich and Whitefield but we want it for the people of Salford.
"My aim is to make the place serve the community, to be more of a community centre, especially with the cuts happening in other places" she adds "The Family Fun Day is giving small businesses in the area a platform to promote themselves, as well as making people aware of what we do. It's a day for everyone."
