Manchester Action on Street Health (MASH) is a charity that supports women who sex work, on the streets or in massage parlours, from across Greater Manchester. In the last year they have helped over six hundred women, including women from the Salford area.
It has a drop-in centre based behind Piccadilly Train Station, in the heart of the 'beat' where the women work on the streets, and a MASH van which tries to reach those who are not confident enough to go to the drop-in centre.
Women working on the streets are very vulnerable and have many issues including addictions or being homeless, and face the dangers of being out on the streets late at night. MASH is able to provide them practical and emotional help to give them the chance to look towards a more positive future.
On Saturday 7th June MASH is taking over ASDA in Hulme, offering to pack customers' bags in return for donations, which will be used towards funding the van. They are looking for more volunteers and are asking the people of Salford to help out.
"This bag pack could raise lots of funds for MASH, but in order to make it a success we need lots of volunteers" says Helen Clayton, MASH Fundraiser "We are asking people to come along for two hours to help. Everyone will get a free MASH t-shirt and a choccy biscuit as a thanks…"
MASH is looking for people to sign up for the bag pack before the day for slots of either 10am until noon; noon until 2pm; or 2pm-4pm.
