SALFORD STAR 100,000 VIEWERS IN LAST MONTH

SALFORD STAR ONLINE GETS OVER 100,000 READERS IN FOUR WEEKS
The Salford Star website has been viewed by over 100,000 people in the past four weeks, an incredible achievement for a voluntary hyper local website.
While the majority of readers have come from Salford and Greater Manchester, people from all over the UK and the world have been following the Star's coverage of the Barton Moss anti-fracking protests.

During the last four weeks – 12th February to 14th March – the Salford Star website has been visited by over 100,000 viewers (almost 75,000 `unique'), a phenomenal achievement by a hyper local website which doesn't cut and paste a zillion press releases a day just to get hits.
The new readership figure from Google Analytics represents a five fold increase since the early days of the Salford Star coming out of print and going online. And a doubling of readers since this time last year.
Undoubtedly a lot of new readers are finding their way to the Salford Star to follow our unique coverage of the Barton Moss anti-fracking protests in words, eye witness accounts and stunning photography. While the majority of readers are coming from Salford and Greater Manchester, people from all over the UK and the world are checking out the truth of what is happening at Barton Moss, particularly from France, Holland, Australia, Canada and the USA.
Meanwhile the Salford Star continues to hold public bodies up to account, despite outrageous slurs and non-co-operation from Salford Council and its Mayor Ian Stewart (see previous Salford Star articles – click here and click here).
The Salford Star is run on less than a shoestring, with everyone working voluntary, and blanket coverage of Barton Moss has only been possible because of whip rounds for petrol so our reporter and photographer can actually get there! We would like to thank everyone who has contributed towards this. Rest assured every penny has gone straight into the petrol tank (but not from Total garages!).
Despite the lack of resources, the Salford Star can announce that it will be back in print very shortly. Details of this and a new fundraising drive to follow…

| See Saddened comment below... So sad you're saddened but would you like us to ignore possible human rights violations on our own doorstep? Would you like us to ignore a story that has national implications that's happening on our own doorstep? Would you like us to ignore a story that moves on and changes every day almost, that's happening on our own doorstep? Make no mistake about it, we are not ignoring other Salford stories - see the Ugly Sisters and Mayor's camper van last week - and there's plenty more to come this week. But we are not going to turn our backs on what is happening on Barton Moss. And we are certainly not going listen to someone who doesn't put his/her own name and uses a false email address. If you are for real, why not use you're own name? Hope this isn't the powers that be trying to put pressure on us by stealth... |

| Many people commenting on this are disillusioned, the Salford Star WAS good 6 months ago, 80% of what they cover now is Fracking, Barton moss, Police are bastards etc. Boring big time and when the protesters or what ever they call themselves who don't live in Salford move on the Star will realise they have lost a lot of readership. I only look at this site once every couple of weeks now due to the POOR content, it used to be everyday. In fact the site should be renamed Anti-frack Star. Salford online are starting to step up and do a little of what the star used to do and it's turning more independent rather the council mouth piece it used to be, a long way to go yet but at least you get both sides in most articles. |

| I would like to thank the generous folk who responded to my request this week for donations for the two workers from Salford Star: the editor and the photographer. The donations were given quite voluntarily and the request was an independent action and nothing to do wit the Star. Everyone was most appreciative, noting the daily attendance of these two individuals at Barton Moss. I know from personal connections of the hours they spend, often into the night, to get the news out as soon as possible.
I went down to Barton Moss to see for myself what was the true story. I was quite objective in my observations and I would like to say to the correspondent called 'Reason' that I was surprised. The Protestors/Protectors were peaceful, did no damage and were very restrained. They believe that Fracking will be damaging to the local community and to the environment and they have a legal right to express this opinion. Unfortunately, I was disappointed in the unnecessary rough handling I witnessed from the Police Tactical Unit. The Police are paid by us to safeguard the public. What I observed was a Police Force protecting a private company and manhandling the public.
I wonder if you have been down to the site to observe or are you making these comments from the point of ignorance and your own bias. Incidentally, the Salford Star Reporters are both highly qualified and experienced, hence the national and international tributes. |
