Following the Gig At The Rig by DJ Dave Haslam, and visits to the Barton Moss Community Protection Camp by Salford-based Maxine Peake and scouse queen Margi Clarke, on Sunday and Monday Bez is set to join the anti-fracking protest in Salford.
While protectors were expecting an eviction to take place on Sunday, instead they will be getting the original 24 Hour Party People dancer, as the Court of Appeal in London won't be sitting until after 26th March (see previous Salford Star article – click here) which means no eviction can happen until the end of the month.
On Sunday, Bez, originally from Swinton, will be visiting the Camp at 2pm, while on Monday morning he will join the slow walk in front of lorries delivering to the IGas exploratory drilling site where he will no doubt witness first hand the heavy handed Greater Manchester Police tactics, which are currently leading to daily arrests and injuries (see previous Salford Star articles click here and click here).
A press release on the visit from Frack Free Greater Manchester states: "It is not known what sort of reception Bez, the son of a police Detective Inspector, will get from Greater Manchester Police who have been increasingly forceful in pushing Protectors down Barton Moss Lane, which was found to be a Public Footpath by a judge earlier in the year."
Martin Porter of Frack Free Greater Manchester adds "We are very pleased Bez has decided to support us in our fight against this unsafe, unnecessary and unwanted fossil fuel. Camp life can be a bit chaotic, but after being in the Happy Mondays I'm sure he'll be used to that."
Now, protectors up at Barton Moss are calling for more Salford celebrities to come forward and either visit the Camp or send a letter of support
The Barton Moss Community Protection Camp is situated on Barton Moss Road, off the A57 Liverpool Road in Irlam. The next turn right after Barton Airport.
