LORRY CARRYING RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL ARRIVES AT BARTON MOSS SALFORD

RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL BROUGHT INTO BARTON MOSS
A lorry carrying a Radioactive sign arrived at the iGas exploratory drilling site at Barton Moss this morning, displaying the symbol CS-137, which is short for Caesium-137, a `radioactive isotope of Caesium' used in nuclear reactors and weapons.
A spokesperson for iGas told the Salford Star that the radioactive material does "not represent any danger to the environment if the operating procedures are properly followed".

A lorry carrying radioactive substance CS-137 or Caesium-137 arrived at the iGas exploratory drilling site at Barton Moss this morning, captured by eagle-eyed photographer Jason Smalley.
Caesium‑137, or `radiocaesium', is described by internet sites as `a radioactive isotope of caesium which is formed as one of the more common fission products by the nuclear fission of uranium-235 and other fissionable isotopes in nuclear reactors and nuclear weapons' and `deserves attention because it possesses a unique combination of physical properties and historical notoriety'... `It is among the most problematic of the short-to-medium-lifetime fission products because it easily moves and spreads in nature due to the high water solubility of caesium's most common chemical compounds, which are salts'.
However, an iGas spokesperson maintained that the material does not represent any danger…
"IGas has contracted Schlumberger to run a logging operation that will provide essential information on the Barton site" she said "During this operation, information is being captured by sensors that are using similar nuclear materials to those used in hospital scanners and household smoke detectors.
"Such materials have been used in the Oil and Gas industry for more than 50 years and do not represent any danger to the environment if the operating procedures are properly followed" she added "Schlumberger personnel are specially trained in their use, handling and storage in strict accordance with the UK Office for Nuclear Regulation and its own Health Safety and Environment standards."
Meanwhile, today at Barton Moss there were three arrests. Two were apparently for breaching bail, while the third happened, the Barton Moss Camp Twitter feed states, when "a protector walked out of the front line [of the slow lorry walk], followed by police and arrested for obstruction of the highway!".
As the lorry carrying the radioactive sign tried to make its way out of the site this afternoon there was a sit-down protest by a protector blockading its path.

| I guess this article really does prove that "ignorance is bliss". Otherwise, how could the people that know what it going on NOT fear for their safety and the safety of those around them???? Are they really that brainwashed by their small paycheques and the single-minded people focused only on GREED FOR POWER & WEALTH who employ them to do their dirty work, at the expense of everyone else's health and the health of the entire planet???? | You really should get your facts right. Cs137 is NOT used in either nuclear bombs or nuclear reactors, it is a product of the decay of Uranium 235 which is used in reactors and in some nuclear bombs. Why didn't you say Caesium-137 can be found in moisture and density gauges, flow meters and other industrial sensors? Probably because that does not suit your attempts to scare people which along with images of seismic and geothermal activity being attributed to fracking when they are clearly unrelated is the only way a campaign bereft of any sensible argument behaves, which this anto fracking campaign clearly is. |

| I saw this post and am completely gobsmacked that radioactive substances are being transported on the roads in such densely populated areas...and close to schools. They would need a license for that. I also read that the drilling company is not considered fit to transport such dangerous substances and are not deemed competent enough to deal with any emergencies that may arise as a result of accidents. Chilling :( |

| Part of the bigger picture The UK is the biggest importer of nuclear waste and are paid lots of money to store the waste safely, but they now have run out of places to store it,this could loose them lots of money.
This is where the fracking comes in to play drilling holes 1 1/2 miles under ground and then drilling vertically for a while then pumping millions of gallons of water under huge pressure mixed with chemicals that cracks the rock to release the gas but the real reason for the millions of gallons of water is to dilute the nuclear ware, then the huge pressure will force the waste in to the cracks to deposit the payload.
This is why they have to do about a hundred drill holes to find one good one so they say, truth more holes to hide nuculor waste.
Even bigger picture Agender21 please look this up.
The true purpose of Fracking is Fucking up the environment and this is being planed to cover the whole of the UK's country side. Please wake up to this crime before it to late.

| Hang on a minute when you enter Greater Manchester there used to be signs saying "Greater Manchester County - Nuclear free zone" this was an agreement of the Gtr Manchester councils that consignments carrying nuclear material were not welcome to enter Gtr Manchester. Has Salford changed their mind or is it just when it suits them? |

| Outrageous, exposing our population to such toxic chemicals. Experience in the USA and other 'fracked' countries shows that there is no such thing as safe fracking wells. They used to think that Fukushima was safe and controllable. It is still spilling radioactive material into the Pacific Ocean - and is now affecting people and livestock in CALIFORNIA.
At least in hospitals the radiation is behind walls and screens, but who gets protection from this lot? |
