Last year, East Salford alone managed to raise £1,763 from coffee mornings, as part of £15million raised nationally from the World's Biggest Coffee Morning towards Macmillan Cancer Support. This year, the Coffee Morning is on 27th September and the charity is looking for even more workplaces, community centres and homes to push the total even higher.
In Greater Manchester 35 people are diagnosed with cancer each day, while Salford has some of the highest rates in the country (see previous Salford Star article – click here). Macmillan makes sure that no-one in Salford has to face cancer alone, with nurses and therapists helping people through treatment, advisers supporting benefit claims, and volunteers lending a hand with everyday things. However, the charity needs to raise funds to keep the vital service going.
Anyone can register to host a coffee morning on the 27th September, all you do is provide the coffee and cakes. Once registered you get a free pack full of stuff you need to make your event a success, including invitations, cake flags, balloons, a table cover and more.
"We were really impressed with so many great coffee mornings last year which made a fantastic contribution to the new record raised nationally" says Becky Bainton, Macmillan fundraising manager for Salford "This year we'd love to see even more people having fun at their coffee morning, whilst knowing they're raising vital funds to help Macmillan support people all over Salford."
