For anyone not familiar with the world of rap battles, be prepared for something startling at Salford's first ever all day Hip Hop Festival next Saturday.
Rap battles are like all-in wrestling using words, as two foes face each other in a fight to the poetic death, usually over three wicked rounds judged on word play and performance
These gladiators of the tongue will use any rap rhyming device to slag, insult, abuse, humiliate and generally destroy their opponent's will to live. Think Mohammed Ali dissing Joe Frazier, with the spite turned up to the max and the political correctness turned down to the off button.
It's vicious and malicious, and is basically the human equivalent of bear baiting, with eager crowds egging on those who spit the strongest words. The top rap battles get tens of thousands of views on sites like Don't Flop, and Salford's own Briggzy, who is hosting the Hip Hop Festival, can hold his own with the best (click here).
The Kings Arms rap battle features bouts Raptor v Wilson; Nero v Shadow; Kye Cambino v Leather and Raw Talent v Bombshell.
Meanwhile the Festival also has the finest line up of crews, rappers and r n' b crooners in the area, including D'Lyfa Reilly, Misfit Music, Sparkz, The Clava Collective, YT, Catch22, Wilson and Hefty, Dave 3ways and EvilA, Sykes, Wooly Nerd, Fresh Connection and The Hustled. And there's some special guests too. All in all it's going to be a top day of non-stop, all rapping, all snapping beats and treats. Not to be missed…
