SALFORD MP HAZEL BLEARS IN £1000 PER DAY CRIME JOB

Star date: 15th May 2013

CRIME PAYS FOR HAZEL BLEARS

Hazel Blears, who sits on Parliament's Intelligence and Security Committee, as well as being a former Police and Counter Terrorism Minister, has landed a job as `Strategic Advisor' with police and crime consultants Juice Advisory Ltd, which pays £1000 per day for her services.

Juice Advisory is aiming to get privatised contracts from the new Police and Crime Commissioners, while it's also worked with the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Interior which has a less than wholesome human rights record.

Full details here…

Following revelations about having made a huge profit on the sale of her tax payer assisted second home in London (see previous Salford Star article – click here), Hazel Blears has now declared that she is being paid £1000 a day as a `Strategic Advisor' for the private consultancy Juice Advisory Ltd.

Juice Advisory claims to bring "unrivalled experience in end-to-end policing and crime activity", and has recently launched a consortium to win privatised contracts from recently elected Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs) to help "deliver their manifesto commitments".

The company, led by former senior civil servant Andrew Morley, has also worked as a sub-contractor for the United Arab Emirates (UAE), advising its Ministry of Interior on "partnership working". The UAE record on human rights leaves a lot to be desired, with a Wikipedia entry noting that "The government restricts freedom of speech and freedom of the press…The UAE has not signed most international human-rights and labour-rights treaties".

Only last month the Guardian reported on a current trial of dissidents "where consistent accounts have emerged from the defendants of torture by beating, sleep deprivation and threats of sexual violence."

For her £1000 a day deal, Hazel Blears will work for four days a year `strategically advising' Juice Advisory, which aims to "make an impact in the policing, crime and justice sector".

Given that Hazel Blears currently sits on Parliament's Intelligence and Security Committee, and is a former Police and Counter Terrorism Minister, people might say that the Salford MP is cashing in on her roles in public office…

Other interesting Hazel Blears Info…

• Last November, Hazel Blears went on a trip to a conference in Kosovo worth £1,103.39, paid for by the Centre for Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF). The roundtable conference was held, according to the Kosovar Centre Security Studies which hosted the weekend, as "a step towards the consolidation of the system of classification of information, access to public documents, and protection of personal data in Kosovo"…Given the `lack of access to public documents' here in Salford (see previous article) perhaps Hazel should spend her time examining accountability on her own doorstep…

• Last June, the Salford MP was paid £500 for a speech on Significant Developments in Alzheimer's Disease. In her declaration of the fee to Parliament, Hazel Blears said that the payment was for "6 hours preparation and presentation". Which works out at £83.33 per hour – a lot more than Salford Council's recent `generous' awarding of a £7.45 Living Wage for its employees.

On reflection I can see where Hazel Blears is coming from and I urge her as my MP to take the big lead on kicking out Bedroom Tax by her calling for a meeting between our elected Mayor and all the candidates in Weaste and Seedley by-election, with Hazel chairing the public meeting. That will be a good way to show commitment to the people of Salford on the issue of local and national extreme importance.

I find it very strange that Hazel wants to "advise" the police and crime commissoner on policy when she opposed this position being created, so in other words she is "do as I say" and not "do as I do". Why does she not just stand as a Tory next time she is up for election? Then UKIP can give her a good trashing at the ballot box for all her support of the open door immigration polices whilst she was a minister in the government. Turn coat, two faced bugger.

Just when you think things cannot get worse, something happens to make you rethink. How does an M.P, whom fiddled her expenses, get to be an adviser on crime, for £1000 a day? Has this country finally gone mad? Although, they do say, if you want to prevent a crime, ask a criminal for advice. I think that statement fits Mrs Blears, like a glove. Maybe she is advising the police on how to stop M.P's fiddling their expenses. Who better to advise, than an M.P. whom gets away with legalised fraud, again and again. Time for a new M.P. whom fights worthwhile causes, such as the closures of homeless shelters, within Salford.

Caught red handed! How can Ed Miliband assure us of a one nation or any sort of a decent leadership after this revelation? Hazel Blears involvement in the MPs expense scandal is still very fresh in our minds, and she goes ahead and does this. David Cameron took a delegation of a hundred British companies to India a few months ago. Why do you think he did that? He did it to be rewarded financial at the end of his time in the job as prime minister; just like Tony Blair - the supposed leader of a socialist party - did in his time in office. All the politicians are corrupt; they are just in the job to line their pockets.

I wonder if she will be advising them on cutting down on fraud? You make me want to vomit Blears.

Its a real shame the mps dont concentrate on resolving the problems of their own constituents instead of being money grubbing lechs. The jobseekers online application facility has been down since Monday-with so many unemployed in Salford, I bet she didnt bother investigating that

It just gets worse, how can she look at people in the face and justify her position. The woman is nothing short of a fortune making political leach. When you examine her expenses the submitted costs are far beyond the reaches of normal families. It defies belief in this day and age that the electorate allows it to continue and she carries on smiling all the while...

what role model are elected Labour gaggles of grease giving to our young people? Gravy trains get bigger by the day with wheels wobbling along in triumph. In a year when almost 1 billion people will go hungry in the world, and each year over 2 million children die from malnutrition, what we need is radical change if we are to put a stop to the VIP Gravy Train culture.

A proper Salford lass, Margaret worked on Lancaster Bombers during the war and as a machinist in Strangeways, and, as the family partied with residents and staff, there were a zillion anecdotes that will echo with loads of local families.
