Yeah but like the Salford and Uni comics…Jason Manford, Peter Kay?
"Their stuff is household comedy" he explains "Our stuff is not very household, it's totally in a world of its own, not in any specific comedy genre or place. We specialise in dark, anarchic comedy, stuff that's a bit testing and a bit out there…"
Expect stuff that you can't imagine Kay and Manford muddling around in, with new sketches like Hansel and Gretel v The Evil Crack Demon, and Mime Wars 2: Mime Harder. As Davies and Jowett's other revue, Slaughterhouse, grows in acclaim, this Christmas Jumble Sale show, full of new material, will be another chance to see up and coming `out there' comedy.
Joining them for the three nights special will be Gem and Rose, the female comedy duo Saints of Humour, who recently appeared alongside Johnny Vegas. Also on stage will be Pico the comedy carwash sponge and friends, like a monkey from Newcastle who isn't very good at telling jokes, and a French puppet with a jagged line in bizarre, graphic poetry.
"People who are expecting puppets and light heartedness get some foul mouthed swearing things coming at them" says Pico and co's handler, Peter Kennedy "Pico does lots of different things, like frankly wrong children's stories and songs with no moral barometer."
Peter and his foul mouthed puppets are making a name on the burlesque circuit rather than the comedy circuit, as they class themselves as performance rather than stand up. Indeed, all three acts are a vital alternative to Live At The Apollo – and the organisers have proudly announced that the Christmas Comedy Jumble Sale `will ruin your Christmas'. Apparently, Jesus and Father Christmas are turning up to verify this…
