HACIENDA: THE CHRISTMAS PARTY

We know that we shouldn't be mentioning Christmas before bonfire night, but tickets for the festive Hacienda party have gone on sale and are likely to be snapped up pronto.

For Hacienda 30: The Christmas Party a huge line up has been put together to totally fill the 10pm-5am timeline. Upstairs, spinning the tunes are Hooky, Marshall Jefferson (Chicago House pioneer), Russ (Manchester Underground records and Shine nights), DJ Nipper (Eastern Bloc) and the legend that is MC Tunes.

Herbie Saccani and Bobby Langley are doing the bar beats, and Graeme Park gets a massive seven hour set to fill the downstairs dancefloor…

"The annual Haçienda Christmas Party at Sankeys is definitely one of the highlights of the year and this time I'm playing all night long" he says "I'm extremely excited because with a whole seven hours to fill I'll be able to span the whole period of my Haçienda residency and play a real variety of genres too. As well as all the usual big, timeless classics, expect a few forgotten gems and some surprises too.

"There's a wealth of great music out there and I plan to dig deep and entertain while taking everyone on a journey that covers a lot more than 30 years of The Haçienda" he adds "I can think of no better way to end a magnificent year of Haçienda 30 celebrations."

Meanwhile, Graeme Park appears too on Hacienda 30: The Album – a three CD set and download package to add to the celebrations.

Park has gets a CD to himself to mix tracks including Darlene Lewis' Let The Music (Lift You Up) (Reese Inner City Club Mix), Lil' Mo' Yin Yang's Reach (Kenny Dope Remix), and MK's Burning (MK Extended Mix).

Mike Pickering gets the second CD, and weighs in with tracks including Jamie Principle's Baby Wants To Ride, Nitro DeLuxe's This Brutal House and Hashim's Al-Naafyish (The Soul).

Hooky gets the third CD and features tracks including Kevin Saunderson's The Groove That Won't Stop (Detroit Special Mix), The Stone Roses' Made Of Stone (808 State Remix), the Twin Peaks sampling Moby's Go (Woodtick Remix) and New Order's Fine Time (Steve `Silk' Hurley Mix).

It's all rounded off with a booklet of unseen Hac photography and a feature on the 30th anniversary party in the car park of the old Hac.

There you go, Christmas is sorted. And it's not even bonfire night yet…

Coming soon: Unknown Pleasures: Inside Joy Division – by Peter Hook. Will it live up to Hooky's brilliant first book on the Hacienda: How Not To Run A Club?

FROM HANKY PARK TO LITTLETON ROAD VIA LANCASTER BOMBERS AND THE 'MONKEY RUN'

Salford's Margaret McHale turned one hundred this week as her six children and relatives gathered for a huge party at The Broughtons Care Home. Born in Hanky Park, Margaret moved around central Salford, to Ellor Street, Warburton Street and finally to Littleton Road, as part of the slum clearances.

A proper Salford lass, Margaret worked on Lancaster Bombers during the war and as a machinist in Strangeways, and, as the family partied with residents and staff, there were a zillion anecdotes that will echo with loads of local families.
