SALFORD COUNCIL TAKEN FOR £130,000 - "WE WERE FOOLED" SAYS ASSISTANT MAYOR

Salford Council has been defrauded of what the Salford Star believes to be around £130,000. Councillor Bill Hinds, Assistant Mayor for Finance at Salford City Council, told the Star that the Council was "absolutely devastated…We are also reviewing our processes to see what can be done to make sure this doesn't happen to us again."

The City of London Police is currently investigating the sting...

Full story here…

Salford City Council has been stung for an amount that the Salford Star believes to be around £130,000. The Council and the Police are keeping the actual details of the fraud under wraps but we understand that the Council paid the cash to organised criminals who had managed to convince staff in its finance department to change the bank details on legitimate invoices.

Councillor Bill Hinds, Assistant Mayor for Finance at Salford City Council, told the Salford Star: "We are absolutely devastated that we have fallen victim to this organised crime group's scam. We understand that this has been running across the country targeting a wide range of organisations.

"These individuals are extremely convincing at what they do and unfortunately we were fooled by them" he added "What these people need to realise is that they are not stealing from a faceless organisation, this is money that is used to help and support the most vulnerable and needy in society

"We have reported this matter to the police and are helping their investigation in any way we can to try to prevent other organisations falling victim to this cruel scam. We are also reviewing our processes to see what can be done to make sure this doesn't happen to us again."

The National Fraud Intelligence Bureau, which operates through the City of London Police, is currently investigating the sting but wouldn't comment as the case is still ongoing…

Rubbish, were they heck frauded by £130,000. This is obviously a weak and pathetic excuse to balance their books before they get caught. They got away with it when they did it with the Great Biscuit Scam (making out they saved £30,000 on biscuits, not any biscuits but the cheapest, bourbons, custard creams etc which do NOT cost anywhere in the region of the amount claimed, for this amount, each staff member would have had to have a large BOX OF MCVITIES CHOCOLATE selection EACH!) so they are obviously doing it again but got even more greedier. Salford Council, at a time when you have cut essential services, you ought to be ashamed of yourself, you weren't scammed, the public were. Do you honestly believe that the public will fall for this lie again? Disgusting.

We all know that Salford council read the Salford star (it the only way they know what is happening in Salford) so someone please pass this on to Ian Stewart. We want to know. 1) Exactly how much has been defrauded? 2) How long this has been going on for undetected? 3) Who will be disiplined over this? 4) What council services will now have to be cut? (you claim your budget is balanced so missing over £100k is a problem) 5) What safeguards have been put in place to prvent a recurance? Please place this information on here and in the Advertiser, You claim you are open and honest so let's see it.

"What these people need to realise is that they are not stealing from a faceless organisation, this is money that is used to help and support the most vulnerable and needy in society" - When he says the most vulnerable and needy, he must mean those council executives who need big bonuses and pay rises. What a complete tosser to even bother making such a bullshit statement. This statement proves, if we needed further proof, that not only are these bastards taking the utter piss, they also think we are so brain dead that we will read that statement and take it at face value. Every day more I wish we had a second amendment in the country. I can see why the Americans have it!

GREETINGS SALFORD COUNCIL, Permit me to inform you of my desire of going into business relationship with you. I got your contact from the International web site directory. I prayed over it and selected your name among other names due to it's esteeming nature and the recommendations given to me as a reputable and trust worthy person I can do business with and by the recommendations I must not hesitate to confide in you for this simple and sincere business. I am Wumi Abdul; the only Daughter of late Mr and Mrs George Abdul. My father was a very wealthy cocoa merchant in Abidjan, the economic capital of Ivory Coast before he was poisoned to death by his business associates on one of their outing to discus on a business deal. When my mother died on the 21st October 1984, my father took me and my younger brother HASSAN special because we are motherless. Before the death of my father on 30th June 2002 in a private hospital here in Abidjan. He secretly called me on his bedside and told me that he has a sum of $12.500.000 (Twelve Million, five hundred thousand dollars) left in a suspense account in a local Bank here in Abidjan, that he used my name as his first Daughter for the next of kin in deposit of the fund. He also explained to me that it was because of this wealth and some huge amount of money his business associates supposed to balance his from the deal they had that he was poisoned by his business associates, that I should seek for a God fearing foreign partner in a country of my choice where I will transfer this money and use it for investment purpose, (such as real estate management). Sir, we are honourably seeking your assistance in the following ways. 1) To provide a Bank account where this money would be transferred to. 2) To serve as the guardian of this since I am a girl of 26 years. Moreover Sir, we are willing to offer you 15% of the sum as compensation for effort input after the successful transfer of this fund to your designate account overseas. please feel free to contact ,me via this email address wumi1000abdul@yahoo.com Anticipating to hear from you soon. Salford City Council is conned out of £130,000 which our political elite through local taxation had responsibility for ? The Finance Chief Bill Hinds really needs to go. His finacial mismanagement of the city is becoming a laughing stock. Michael Moulding, Deputy Leader, Community Action Party

Its funny howe they never use their own propaganda rag "whats (going)on in Salford" to keep the public informed when there is a problem, why do we have to hear about SCC cock-ups from other agents? I begrudge my council tax being spent on a magazine that is basically used as a political tool. I thought the govt were looking into abolishing the town hall Pravdas?

Not good enough. Hinds must crawl into an emergency financial crisis meeting with Mayor Greedy , dragging Spicer along . All of them must stay awake , no snoozing on this one . Stay in there until this matter is resolved , with safeguards in place to ensure this NEVER happens again , and with a full investigation into why inept and useless staff allowed this fraud to happen . Ensure a stragegy is immediately implemented to recover OUR money , otherwise the useless lot get no salaries , expenses , or any public money , until the funds are replaced . Finally , the entire lot of them must resign , they are all truly inept . This city deserves so much better . Note new word : Fraudsterisationickery , for Stewart to use .

SALFORD STAR – 15 YEARS OF ATTITUDE AND LOVE XXX

The Salford Star closes tonight after 15 years of giving the community a voice, holding power to account and bigging up all the great things that have happened in the city.

Thousands of people in Salford have been involved in one way or another with the Star and we'd like to thank them all. Salford is a very special city and, hopefully, we've given it a very special community publication.

THREATS, LIES, FEAR AND LOATHING IN SALFORD...

Today, the Salford Star shuts down but we write this article as a warning to others who may follow on the pitfalls of founding a genuine publication that aims to give the community a voice and hold public bodies up to account.

They will try to discredit you, block information and shut you down. Here the Salford Star editor, Stephen Kingston, looks at how democracy perished badly under the Salford mayoral system.

SALFORD STAR CLOSURE – GUY GRIFFITHS ON THE HUMAN COST OF PATHFINDER DEMOLITIONS

Star date: 16th May 2021

THE HUMAN COST OF REGENERATION

The Griffiths brothers of Higher Broughton are kind of infamous as the only people to be forcefully evicted from their house as part of the Pathfinder 'housing market renewal' project during the first decade of the 21st Century.

Here, Guy Griffiths, now living in 'sunny' north Wales and one of the main inspirations for the Salford Star's creation, writes the second part his own personal view of the Government project that devastated communities throughout Central Salford.
