SALFORD GIRL HITS MISS TEEN GREAT BRITAIN SEMIS

Star date: 17th June 2012

SWINTON'S LURELLE GOES FOR BRITISH CROWN

Swinton's Lurelle Bancroft has reached the semi finals of Miss Teen Great Britain, beating loads of competitors from around the country. Miss Teen Great Britain isn't a beauty contest and has been set up `to celebrate teenagers and their achievements, and to ultimately find a great role-model' state the organisers. Lurelle says it will be her personality that wins over the judges.

Full story here…

Swinton's Lurelle Bancroft has got through to the semi finals of the Miss Teen Great Britain contest which is looking to find `a great role model' for teenagers. The current crown holder has been all around Europe and Britain, encouraging kids to read, appearing at charity events and going into schools, and Lurelle says that winning would mean loads to her…

"For me to win this would be everything!" she says "Firstly, for the experience and the outcomes from this, and I also enjoy meeting other people and socialising. It would make my 2012 one fantastic, successful year. My family are so proud of me entering the contest and getting into the semi finals. All that I have had is praise, they are very supportive of me."

The organisers of Miss Teen Great Britain are adamant that it is not an old fashioned `beauty pageant'

"We do not refer to Miss Teen Great Britain as a 'beauty contest' as it is about their personality" Holly Ikin, Director of Miss Teen Great Britain told the Salford Star "The aim is to celebrate teenagers and their achievements, and to ultimately find a great role model. Consequently, fifty per cent of the judging is based on an interview with the judges."

So, does Lurelle think that her Salford personality will charm those judges?

"I have a very easy personality" she replies "I am a polite, confident and socialising person. I like to take challenges as they come. So maybe, yes, my personality could win the judges over."

Lurelle tells us that she entered the contest for the experience; and if she gets through to the Grand Final she'll be off to Blackpool on September 30th to compete against sixty girls from all over the country for the crown, £1000 and loads of other prizes. If she wins, Lurelle will be travelling all over Europe in what is a once in a lifetime opportunity. So, should there be a Mr Teen Great Britain?

"I think they should have a Mr Teen Great Britain because this is just for girls" says Laurelle "There are many guys out there who may have the potential for things such as this."

Meanwhile, Lurelle is carrying the torch for Salford. Watch this space, we'll let you know how she gets on…

Good luck to the girl . She's got the perfect opportunity to escape forever this Dead Hell- City. Makes a refreshing change to see a Teen not waddling about the precinct shoplifting or mugging , or pushing an overloaded pram full of screaming feral sprogs .

SALFORD STAR – 15 YEARS OF ATTITUDE AND LOVE XXX

The Salford Star closes tonight after 15 years of giving the community a voice, holding power to account and bigging up all the great things that have happened in the city.

Thousands of people in Salford have been involved in one way or another with the Star and we'd like to thank them all. Salford is a very special city and, hopefully, we've given it a very special community publication.

SALFORD STAR CLOSURE: HOW SALFORD COUNCIL TRIED TO BLOCK AND DISCREDIT THE STAR

Star date: 17th May 2021

THREATS, LIES, FEAR AND LOATHING IN SALFORD...

Today, the Salford Star shuts down but we write this article as a warning to others who may follow on the pitfalls of founding a genuine publication that aims to give the community a voice and hold public bodies up to account.

They will try to discredit you, block information and shut you down. Here the Salford Star editor, Stephen Kingston, looks at how democracy perished badly under the Salford mayoral system.

A WHIFF OF FREEDOM AS RESTRICTIONS ARE EASED

Salford has 7 new coronavirus cases, down from the previous day's 14, while the seven day rate per 100,000 population now stands at 30.1, down from 30.9. There have been no new virus-related deaths announced by Salford Royal Hospital.

Today sees restrictions eased and the first whiff of freedom in over a year. It's also the final coronavirus bulletin from the Salford Star which is closing. Here we look back over 14 months of the pandemic and the absolute communication failings of Salford City Council and its City Mayor.

THEY WILL TRY TO DISCREDIT YOU...TO BLOCK YOU, TO SHUT YOU DOWN

We are almost at the final closure of the Salford Star but we write this article as a warning to others who may follow on the pitfalls of founding a genuine publication that aims to give the community a voice and hold public bodies up to account.

They will try to discredit you, block information and shut you down. In South America they just blow up the offices of journalists that don't play the game. Here they just financially assassinate you...

SALFORD STAR CLOSURE – GUY GRIFFITHS ON THE HUMAN COST OF PATHFINDER DEMOLITIONS

Star date: 16th May 2021

THE HUMAN COST OF REGENERATION

The Griffiths brothers of Higher Broughton are kind of infamous as the only people to be forcefully evicted from their house as part of the Pathfinder 'housing market renewal' project during the first decade of the 21st Century.

Here, Guy Griffiths, now living in 'sunny' north Wales and one of the main inspirations for the Salford Star's creation, writes the second part his own personal view of the Government project that devastated communities throughout Central Salford.
