Manchester United might be the richest club in the country but across the road from Old Trafford is Ordsall Park, home of the coolest team in the country.

Ordsall Juniors, who are currently undefeated in the under 12s City of Salford Soccer League Division 2, have been sponsored by New Order, Joy Division and Hacienda legend Peter Hook who hails from Ordsall.

"We've been in contact with Hooky and thanked him for what he's done" Ordsall Juniors manager Paul Morris told Ordsall Undercover magazine this month "He says he was a local lad who knows Ordsall isn't a bad place and doesn't deserve the bad press it sometimes gets, that's why he made time to look into us.

"It will create publicity for our kids which they deserve, and for us as parents, the right and positive publicity that we don't get" he adds "People look at our sponsors now which is great for us, and ask `A world famous pop group and night club owner part of Ordsall? Great!' It's excellent for us. Well done Mr Hooky…"

Ordsall Juniors only formed last season to give local kids something to do and have since, not only taken junior football in Salford by storm but have also built up a following that can hit seventy supporters for home games at Ordsall Park.

While Ordsall Juniors play in the same colours as Man United, they beat them hands down for total cool…

In the latest issue of Salford Council's propaganda mag, Life in Salford, Salford City Mayor, Paul Dennett, has denounced the "myth" that "developers don't contribute money to the city. It's simply not true" he says.

Yes, they do contribute some money but they also avoid millions of pounds in payments and provision of affordable housing. Indeed, Salford Star analysis shows that developers avoided almost £5.5million in payments last year, as the Mayor only tells half the truth.
