SALFORD STAR TO DECLARE WAR ON GAMBIA

Star date: 14th February 2012

SALFORD SUKAI LOSES LATE APPEAL AGAINST DEPORTATION TO DESPOT LAND…

"I have just had the most harrowing conversation with Sukai…I felt like I was talking to someone on death row" Sukai's friend

Last night the Salford Star got a sad e-mail from supporters of Sukai Jack, stating that she'd lost her last minute appeal, and will be deported at 9am this morning to Gambia.

The British Government has sent Sukai back to be dealt with by a ruthless regime. Amnesty International has condemned Gambia's President Jammeh for all sorts of human rights violations, including "arbitrary arrests, torture, extrajudicial executions and enforced disappearances". If this despot lays one finger on Sukai – it's war…You don't mess with Salfordians!

UPDATE 9AM: SUKAI'S FLIGHT CANCELLED!

UPDATE 16th Feb: Sukai still in the UK - see full story

Last night the Salford Star received an e-mail from supporters of Sukai Jack. Her last minute appeal against deportation was turned down at 8:45pm and at midnight she was due to be taken from Yarls Wood to Gatwick in preparation for a 9am flight to Gambia.

"I have just had the most harrowing conversation with Sukai" wrote her friend "I felt like I was talking to someone on death row and absolutely powerless to a massive miscarriage of justice…"

For anyone who doesn't know why Sukai left her kids to seek refuge in Salford please click here for the full story. She escaped jail, torture and rape. And now she's going back to face a regime that is repeatedly being condemned by Amnesty International (see here) for human rights violations including "arbitrary arrests, torture, extrajudicial executions and enforced disappearances"…

Only last month, four activists opposed to President Jammeh were jailed for distributing t-shirts calling for an end to dictatorship in Gambia. One activist, Dr Amadou Scattred Janneh, the country's former Minister for Information and Communication, was sentenced to life imprisonment with hard labour for treason. Modou Keita, Ebrima Jallow and Michael Uche Thomas were each sentenced to three years with hard labour for sedition. For being in possession of a t-shirt?

"The imprisonment and conviction of these men is a violation of their rights to freedom of expression, assembly and association, contrary to the Gambia's constitution and the country's international and regional human rights obligations" states Amnesty International "President Jammeh is once again proving that he does not tolerate any form of criticism and is ruthlessly persecuting anyone who speaks out against his regime..."

Opposition politicians, journalists, free speech advocates…the list goes on and on. And it's this crazed attitude to criticism that Sukai finds herself involved with…she was originally arrested and beaten for failing to attend a reception for the President's wife, even though she was ill.

Will Sukai be safe back in the Gambia? She better had be! Salfordians look after their own. And Sukai is an honorary Salfordian. If the Salford Star hears of one finger being laid on her by President Jemmeh or his henchmen we will declare war on Gambia. And ask Sukai's supporters including Salford City Council and local MPs to back that call… It will be more than t-shirts that the dictator will have to deal with!

Meanwhile, it's the British Government with Sukai's potential blood on its hands...

UPDATE 9AM: SUKAI'S FLIGHT CANCELLED!

No details yet - we'll update as and when we find out what's going on...

1pm: THE UK BORDER AGENCY have just given us this quote which says nothing really...

" We do not routinely comment on individual cases. The UK Border Agency only enforces the return of individuals whom we, and if necessary the courts, are satisfied are not in need of protection and who do not elect to leave voluntarily."

UPDATE: 16th FEB - Sukai has been granted further leave to appeal and is still in the country, in Yarl's Wood prison in Bedforshire. More updates as we get them...

Jim. Yeah, I know about Bamba Mass - he came to Bournemouth University to study law and decided life would be easier for himself here in the UK so he didn’t go back to Gambia. Adopted the usual excuse for not going back, "I’m staying here to fight for my poor downtrodden brothers and sisters - so he opted to sit about in the UK thousands of miles away from his beloved Gambia campaigning for his beloved people. Most of the so-called activists, asylum seekers, refugees et al would be of more benefit to their own countries if they would go home, get into work, and help build their own countries instead of doing a runner all the way to the UK. Our people don’t "buy their stories" - our government(s), MPs, MSPs and councillors pretend to buy their stories - they get hit with the racist card if they don’t.

Angus McKay, don't you mind the likes of Bamba Mass, he doesn't even know what human rights is, let alone respect it. Check all the anti-gambia government blogs, you will be surprised with how many so-called "human rights activists" are coming from Gambia. Almost all asylum seekers are "activist" of one kind. And guess what? Your people buy their stories, so NAIVE, and write all kind of nonsense about Gambia without having the flimsiest clue. An example is the foolish author declaring "war" against Gambia. What an arrogant ignorant!

Jim Correct, anyone can enter the UK using "I want asylum". For years the illegals, courtesy of France, have been making their way across Europe, across France, to wait to cross the channel into England in the backs of lorries .... This was shown on TV a while back - ‘‘COOEE’’ shouted the female Border Control official into the back of the lorry - ‘‘ANYBODY THERE?’’. Three illegals appeared. ‘‘ANYMORE THERE?’’ shouted the official. Another 22 illegals appeared, all smiling and grinning, they had made it into Britain, the land of milk and honey and benefits. The illegals were welcomed by our Border Controls (lol) who would have taken them for a meal and a wash and given them written instructions on where to find accommodation. I kid you not.

Robert williams Those entering other countries via the asylum route don’t have visas. They arrive in the country of their choice (asylum shopping) and say "I want asylum". The seekers are then given somewhere to stay, a wash and fed. Next step is to allocate them a personal case worker who will point them in the direction of tax-funded support group who will advise them to enroll in the NHS, get their kids (if any) into the local school or college, give them the contact number for a human rights lawyer and inform them of all the freebies to which they are entitled (sic) They arrive by various methods, first class air flight etc. Here’s an example of seekers arriving in the UK .... A family from Kosovo, the Stojkaj’s and their three infant daughters, stated publicly that when they got the opportunity to get, wait for it, fake passports, they decided to leave Kosovo for Canada. Somewhere along the way, in their supposed horrendous flight from war-ravaged Kosovo they decided to come to England, who off-loaded them to Glasgow. They were welcomed by our tax-funded refugee support groups and within three days they had been allocated a Glasgow flat in Great Western Road.

Bamba Mass (Human Right Activist) UK If you feel there is so much wrong in Gambia, why don’t you take yourself and your protest to Gambia? So easy for you to languish in another country thousands of miles away, and scream your worthless stories - nobody is listening to you. True, if you returned to Gambia, you "would be more than what you are here in the UK" - in the UK you are nothing. Modern Britain? In Britain we have our own senior citizens, and others, some of whom are dying from hypothermia whilst "asylum seekers" receive 24/7 free gas and electricity. Growing numbers of my people (not yours) are being made homeless and redundant whilst "asylum seekers" are given free furnished, repair free accommodation. My people are being refused, due to cost, life-prolonging cancer drugs whilst we treat your ever growing numbers of "asylum seekers" in our free to them but not to us NHS. Hitler? - when Germany attacked Britain, the British didn’t run to other countries screaming "I want asylum", the British fought back - and won. If we had lost, Gambia and the rest of your third world countries wouldn’t be receiving the vast amounts of foreign aid they get from us and other countries. Britain does not need you or Sukai. Return to your own countries, your own people, your own culture and WORK! Take your human rights activity to Gambia, better still, get yourself a proper job.

am a Gambian and neutral. How did sukai manage to enter Britain? What kind of visa did she possess? Many gambians are residing outside Gambia because the have embesseled public Gambian funds. Many people want to leave Gambia for wrong reasons. Most of those writing here have not explained how they entered Britain. I thing the immigration is right to excerise the law. Gambians are known to be telling a lot of lies just to get asylum.

And those so-called "Salfodians" declaring "war" againts a sovereign nation, Gambia makes me laugh! Gambia is more free and peaceful than Scotland. If you are foolish enough to buy any fake story. that your pain in the *ss!

I believe some of you who doubt Sukai should read these below so as to make you belief people don't just say things about their own country just to stay in the UK. We do wish the Gambia to be like the UK OR even better in terms of Human Rights and respect for rule of Law by law enforcing agents but they are instead agents of torture and death. Please read slowly.x FOROYAA Online - Young Man Alleged to be tortured To Death While under Detention - National News National News : Young Man Alleged to be tortured To Death While under Detention By Suwaibou Touray on 04-02-11 (822 reads) News by the same author The body of a young man, allegedly tortured to death, has been returned to his home village of Numuyel on Tuesday, 1 February 2011, for burial. Speaking to this reporter, Bangally Sibi, a brother to the diseased, said a post mortem has already taken place and that the four paramilitary personnel, who were responsible for his arrest and detention are reported to be under police custody at the police headquarters in Banjul. According to the relatives of the diseased, Dembo had marital problems with his wife which has been disturbing him. They explained that when he was later informed that his wife has got married to another man he decided to visit the in-laws to enquire about truth; that he went to borrow the motorbike of a friend, who was at the time visiting Serekunda, but the wife and the others he met there refused to give it to him. They said this led to a push and pull after which the wife of the friend decided to report the matter to the PIU station at Numuyel. The relatives further explained that whilst Dembo was being advised not to go there alone and could wait until the next day and go with a friend, the paramilitary personnel also arrived and said they had come to arrest him. They said when they tried to explain to the PIU personnel that there was no problem, the officers insisted on taking him as the complaint they said was about theft. The family claimed he was arrested and taken away. The family said when the paramilitary personnel realised that Dembo was dead; they told the family to collect the body. They said the family also refused to do that and that was the time, they said he was put in a vehicle and rushed to Numuyel dispensary. They said the officer on duty asked a few questions and told them that the guy had passed away. According to the family, the body was again rushed to Basse health center who also rushed it to Bansang hospital escorted by one OC Keita from Basse police to Banjul for possible Post Mortem. The body they said arrived at the RVTH at about 4am on saturday and is now being buried at Numuyel on Tuesday 1 February 2011. Dembo is survived by a wife, three girls and one boy, said Bangally Sibi, a brother to the deceased. Foroyaa reporter has reached the police PRO, ASP Yero Mballow who said he did not get the details at the time but promised to get back to us once he gets it.

I know some of you are in pain because of fake asylum seekers but come on have you so easily forgotten when we all were one united family under the great British Empire fighter monsters like Hitler who tried to kill innocent British? My grand father in the first World war fought for you and then against Hitler, my uncle fought alongside some ex British servicemen so gallantly in Burma(Now Myanmar) until Hitler was defeated. Gambia was not attacked by any of those monsters then but our people served your people because when one has trouble, another peace loving individual should come to their aid. That is humanity and that is what grand Dad taught me. This sukai girl has no need to lie for there is nothing impossible in the Gambia today. If you her critics must know one of her Aunt Mrs Mariama Jack was recently fined 10,000 dalasis just because she boldly took some government officials to court for defamation and because she is an opposition member, the government manipulated the court files by taking them away and claiming they were lost and as a result the criminal judge forced the complainant Mrs Mariama Jack to either proof her case regardless whether the witness statements are at court or not or get a fine despite knowing it was the states responsibility to safely keep all court files so as for them to be used as exhibits in a fair trial but Gambia is different. Madam Jack in end she was fined. Where in this country would such things happen in modern Britain? So many foreigners would have prefered to be home for I for one believed if I was in my country and in a democratic environment, I would be more than what I am here in the UK. Am just not my Grand father I am a coward scared of death. So if I am what about young Sukai. I have seen crime against humanity at its worst while in detention. I don't have to narrate that here but Gambia is a state of tears. Just try walk near Mile 2 central prison in the Gambia sometime between 3am and 5am when most of those considered enemies of the president are beaten. You hear cries and loud wailing as if the sky would fall. Help us take the monster of a president out and I assure you any Gambian seen near your boarders should go to jail

Lennon Allow me to educate you and yours (is that possible?) Glasgow receives the most asylum seekers in the UK. Circa two-thirds of asylum seekers granted the right to remain in Scotland take off for England once they are given their right to stay. Problem is, once their accommodation is made vacant, another asylum seeking family is moved in. Glasgow is now the revolving door for asylum seekers wishing to gain residence in England. IF the Scottish National Party gain independence, Alex Salmond, given control of immigration, intends opening Scotland up to all immigration, come one, come all. How many? 500,000? one million, two million? more? Scotland appears to be the only country in the world which is touting for more immigrants. Problem for England is, asylum seekers, economic migrants, illegals, Roma et al, do not want to settle in Scotland - England is their chosen destination - sorry England - I know you are full. The Borders will become Britain’s Sangatte. England’s infrastructure, NHS, schools, colleges, job market, benefit system, maternity, housing could not cope with an additional influx of immigrants - can’t cope just now. Lennon, YOU are the "complete knob".

Doctor Doctor. Why not attempt to post a more informative comment - use your reply to state your case for Sukai staying in the UK. By all means criticize, but why not use your posting to state your point of view rather than just to pass insult. Take advantage of the salford star invitation to say something worthwhile. Come on Doctor, let’s hear something substantial from you without the silly emotive language we read on this thread from Sukai supporters. Are you capable or are you stupid?

Not A Drone Why is it that anybody who speaks out against the massive immigration and asylum con, (Sukai) must be labelled with some kind of derogatory remark? The usual response from the fool who is unable to challenge a comment by debate or counter-argument. Nothing special about Sukai, she’s just another run-of-the-mill failed asylum seeker relying on sad, wee, not-too-bright supporters to prolong her illegal stay in the UK. Sukai should be "fast-tracked" out of Salford, out of England, out of the UK - and no residing at Yarls Wood at the taxpayers expense. Her life is in danger? - Yeah, from herself, she is threatening to kill herself - oh the absurdity of the asylum seeker facing deportation.

caroline asked: "What harm is she doing" Sukai is refusing to accept the legal decisions of our immigration lawyers and leave the UK. She is continuing to live all free at the taxpayers’ expense. Sukai has become a money-guzzling and time-wasting liability on the British people. Time wasted passing her on from Glasgow, Liverpool and then Salford. Allowing her to stay for years on the all free asylum package. Wasting time and expense getting her into Yarl’s Wood, paying for her ticket to Gambia which turned out to be a wasted effort.

I hope the Honorable home secretary would personally intervene in poor Sukai's case. I believed her story for I was a victim too. Things that happens in the Gambia under the monster of a president, are beyond human imaginations. It is difficult for the British administration to know all that happens in that small African state but beating of women is not a taboo in fact that happens even in the homes on daily basis therefore for the state security agents to gang rape someone serving prison sentence is a blessing for some prisoners because that is when you might get few favors. Gambia looks democratic just on the surface but rotten in the core and that is no secret. The only country Gambia is better than on this planet today is Syria I can take proudly swear to that. I am pleading on this poor girl's behave. Please she is a mother and deserve dignity. There is none where you want to send her. I have always said any day this dictator leaves power or dies today, I will fly on the next flight to the Gambia. Some of us would love to be at home for we belong there.

Hello all. thankyou for the messages of support. Asylum is not a popular subject at the moment, remember its the outrageous cases that make the media and unfortunately thats what our society makes assumptions on. the support we have had in the last few days(and years)bring home the fact that our city is tolerant and compassionate and i am utterly proud to be a Salfordian. The fight is not over, please keep it going. Look at the latest human rights report for the Gambia; Climate of fear amongst the Community of Human Rights Defenders, International Fact Finding mission. this report is produced and supported by the EU and the Republic and Canton of Geneva. the British high commission in Banjul have contributed to the report and it backs up everything we know. incidentally if you go to the British High Commission website it states"politically the British Government strongly supports the Gambia's commitment to democracy, the rule of law and the respect for human rights".
