SALFORD COUNCIL LOSES UP TO £100K TO SAVE £60K!
Salford City Council has managed to lose up to £100,000 trying to save £60,000 at Lledr Hall, its well regarded outdoor education centre in Wales. How did it manage this?

As part of pulling back a `budget reduction' to Lledr Hall, Salford Council's top outdoor education centre in Wales, the Council increased costs to parents and schools by 19% - a one week course that previously cost £177 increased to £210.
The idea of the increased charges was to pull back a budget cut of £60,000 – down from £174,000 to £114,000. But instead, it totally backfired with thirteen groups subsequently cancelling or reducing the duration of their course.
With four months of the financial year still to go, a Council report states that the "total financial negative impact to date [is] between £50k - £100k overspend". In other words, it's cost the Council up to £100,000 in bookings to try and save £60,000!
So how did this possibly happen? Well, during the `subsequent discussion' of the report amongst Council officers and councillors, some bright spark pointed out that "In the current economic climate families are feeling the pinch and it was recognised that 30% of pupils living in Salford are living in poverty"…No way!
What a great idea! `Families feeling the pinch? 30% of kids living in poverty? …`Let's put up charges by £33 a week for a course!'

| This inept council never gets things right . Nothing they do ever benefits Salford people , the ones who are forced to fund all the waste . Can anyone understand why , in a council stuffed with obscene-salaried ' executives ' , nothing ever makes economic sense ? I believe this lot only care about their obscene salaries and pensions , and care nothing for the dreadful state of Salford and its citizens . |

| Stop throwing money at Peel and the developers. Stop handing out money to consultants like you are giving away somebody elses toffees (which you are really :-)). Stop putting out your propaganda sheets and get rid of the likes of Spicer and Walker and most of the other dead wood near the top of the councils financial food chain. Save a load and keep the important stuff. |

| This council is in a complete mess, thier finances are compared to Greece and the services are getting slated daily because of Mismanagement from the highest level. Salford Labour have controlled the City for 37 Years under Tory's, Labour and Coalition Governments and the massive debts of nearly £600 million hasn't just occurred in the last 18mnths and this item is just another in a long line of spending tax payers money in the wrong areas. Salford Labour need to be kicked out,the finances of the city sorted whilst protecting those essential front line services. |

| Well well now there is a suprise.What bloody planet are these people on. Don't they know families are find it hard.I am sure there were better way's to find savings than hitting the kids, again. For one get rid of support members. I still don't know who or what they are supporting except their own bank balance. The total waste I have seen on the over £500 spends they now have to publish each month is a crime,but for some reason they are still getting away with it.
Would like to know are they getting back ALL the loans they have given out to private companies over the last few years. Where within their accounts would we fine the repayments on outstanding loans. Maybe if the got the millions back of OUR money, projects like this would be safe. |

| More proof , if any more was needed , that the Clown Hall Cretins are incompetent , inept, and devoid af any business acumen . These inadequate morons throw taxpayers money away like confetti .They could not be trusted to run a tap .Take the wasted £40,000 from Scary's salary . She won't miss it . Salford people should run this city .At least they care about it . |
