De-Industrialisation, privatisation, casualisation, financialisation – welcome to Britain under the ConDem Government. There's lots and lots of stuff going on at the moment to try and fight back – from the global `Occupy' camps to street protests in the finance districts. In Salford next weekend, some top speakers are going to try and make sense of it all.
At the North West Unity Conference in Salford next Saturday the star speaker is Prof Sem Sikka, who is co-founder of the Tax Justice Network and author of the book The Pinstripe Mafia, who will be exploring the `Tax Avoidance Industry and the Financial Crisis'.
Also on the bill is Michael Meacher MP, talking about `The Public Ownership of Banks', and Pete Middleman from PCS union talking about `Privatisation and the Attack on Public Sector Pensions'. Meanwhile, Jenny Clegg unveils `The Rise of China', and John Boyd speaks on `Ireland Bankrupt and Subjected – Lessons for the British Labour Movement'. And in the afternoon there's a Working Class Question Time with a full panel of previous speakers and trade union officials.
The Conference should help anybody who still has any doubts about the cause of the current economic mess to understand what the hell is going on.
