Last season, Salford City chairman, Darren Quick, told Salford Star that if the club got another fifty people through the turnstiles regularly, the team would get promotion. Instead, attendances at Moor Lane have actually dropped and the financial state of the club has led to a few players leaving to join other clubs.
In an effort to increase crowds, Salford City are to play a one off Friday night fixture tonight, 14th October, at Moor Lane against Curzon Ashton, currently top of the Evo-Stik First Division. The bar will be open, and a top Friday night out is guaranteed.
On its website Salford City released this statement… "The club have been looking at ways of increasing attendances at Moor Lane, and generating more interest within the city, and this is one option. If it's successful we may ask for future games to be rescheduled as well."
Salford is a huge city with over 200,000 people. We urge everyone to support the club so that Salford has the team such a big city deserves.
Rhodri Giggs' team is currently on a roll, having beaten Clitheroe in Tuesday night's replay to launch a run in the FA Trophy (see here). If Salford City stuff Curzon Ashton tonight, the play offs are once again on the cards…
