UK Youth Climate Coalition (UKYCC), which aims to unite British youngsters around the issue of climate change, is organising its annual Power Shift event in Salford this year.
The first UK Power Shift event took place in 2009 in London, and was attended by 350 people, and over the past five years, Power Shift events have taken place across India, America, Canada and Australia mobilising over 25,000 young people. The organisation has also worked with Obama speechwriter Marshall Ganz, and actor Jason Isaacs, to raise awareness of climate change issues.
Power Shift is happening in Salford this year because our area was the epicentre of the industrial revolution and now they're looking at kicking off a green revolution…
"We feel the green revolution will be as instrumental to the future of Britain as was the industrial revolution over 150 years ago" says Sophie Wainwright, Press and Social Media Officer for Power Shift "As arguably the world's first industrial cities, Manchester and Salford stood out as the perfect place to inspire and engage young people."
As well as all the green education and training, there's a full programme of entertainment too including live bands, films and dance.
University of Salford, The Crescent, Salford
7-9th October 2011
Tickets for the three days are £10 if you're not working and £15 if you are.
