Sorry, did the Queen die last night? Did they declare the end of the Second World War up here? Did Cheryl Cole get married or some'at? Throughout this game the bells of Lancaster were peeling none stop, doing everyone's head in. Maybe Quasimodo has moved oop north… "The balls…the bells…Will today be the day?"
Er, no. Well not for Salford City anyway. For most of this game the Ammies looked solid enough to at least get a draw but, after Lancaster had scored five minutes before half time, the chances just didn't come.
A Jack Redshaw header saved by the Lancaster keeper was nearest Salford got to a sniff of the net. Lancaster were not much better until very late in the game when Salford threw everything up front looking for an equaliser. Exposed at the back, keeper and new Salford City captain Andy Robertson, made three consecutive world class saves from point blank shots to keep Salford in with a shout.
Late pressure from the Ammies and Rhodri Giggs, on as a late sub, wasn't enough to grab a point.
Today wasn't the day – but Saturday should see Salford City finally kickstart the season at Bamber Bridge.
