'SHOW CAUTION' WHEN RESTRICTIONS ARE LIFTED URGES SALFORD PUBLIC HEALTH TEAM

Salford has 6 new coronavirus cases, down from the previous day's 12, while the seven day rate per 100,000 population now stands at 32.1, up from 31.7. There have been no new virus-related deaths announced by Salford Royal Hospital.

Meanwhile, with restrictions easing further on Monday 17th May, the Salford Public Health team has urged "caution" with neighbouring boroughs experiencing "higher case rates and a new variant of concern".

Salford has 6 new coronavirus cases, down from the previous day's 12, bringing the cumulative total of cases to 23,441. The seven day average of cases in Salford is now 83, up from 82, while the seven day rate per 100,000 population now stands at 32.1, up from 31.7.

Elsewhere in Greater Manchester the seven day average of cases in Bury is 37 (down from 42), with a seven day rate per 100,000 population of 19.4 (down from 22); Bolton 554 (Up from 473), with a rate of 192.7 (up from 164.5); Manchester 224 (up from 212), with a rate of 40.5 (up from 38.3); and Oldham 60 (down from 61), with a rate of 25.3 (down from 25.7).

Rochdale has a seven day average of cases of 106 (down from 107), with a seven day rate of 47.7 (down from 48.1); Stockport 98 (up from 84), with a rate of 33.4 (up from 28.6); Tameside 72 (up from 59), with a rate of 31.8 (up from 26); Trafford 74 (up from 68), with a rate of 31.2 (up from 28.6); and Wigan 99 (up from 91), with a rate of 30.1 (up from 27.7).

There have been no new virus-related deaths announced by Salford Royal Hospital.

Meanwhile, on Monday 17th May, restrictions will be eased, including allowing pubs and restaurants to serve indoors and that six people or two households can meet in a private home.

With the new Indian variant surging in Bolton, Gillian McLauchlan from the Salford Public Health team is urging caution... "After a rise in case rates, numbers of new coronavirus cases over the last week have stabilised" she writes "As neighbouring boroughs are experiencing higher case rates and a new variant of concern, it is however, really important that we continue to show caution and follow the current restrictions to stay safe and protect others. We all have a part to play in reducing transmission."

It was a message echoed in Boris Johnson's briefing yesterday when he added "I have to level with you that this new variant could pose a serious disruption to our progress and could make it more difficult to move to step four in June...But I urge everyone to exercise the greatest caution because the choices we each make in the coming days will have a material effect on the road ahead."
