UNIONS REMEMBER THE COVID DEAD WHILE FIGHTING FOR THE LIVING

Salford has 15 new coronavirus cases, down from the previous day's 17, while the seven day rate per 100,000 population now stands at 33.6, up from 32.8. There have been no new virus-related deaths announced by Salford Royal Hospital. Those aged 42 and 43 are now being invited for a jab.

Meanwhile, today is International Workers Memorial Day, and North West UNISON is remembering its 55 working members who have died as a result of COVID-19. There is also an online event from 11:55am with speakers including Salford MP Rebecca Long Bailey, and Salford UNISON's Ameen Hadi..."More than ever, remember the dead, fight for the living" states the union.

Salford has 15 new coronavirus cases, down from the previous day's 17, bringing the cumulative total of cases to 23,241. The seven day average of cases in Salford is now 87, up from 85, while the seven day rate per 100,000 population now stands at 33.6, up from 32.8.

Elsewhere in Greater Manchester, the seven day average of cases in Bury is 53 (down from 54), with a seven day rate per 100,000 population of 27.8 (down from 28.3); Bolton 126 (down from 139), with a rate of 43.8 (down from 48.3); Manchester 273 (down from 276), with a rate of 49.4 (down from 49.9); and Oldham 78 (down from 81), with a rate of 32.9 (down from 34.2).

Rochdale has a seven day average of cases of 75 (up from 70), with a seven day rate of 33.7 (up from 31.5); Stockport 86 (up from 81), with a rate of 29.3 (up from 27.6); Tameside 72 (down from 77), with a rate of 31.8 (down from 34); Trafford 81 (up from 71), with a rate of 34.1 (up from 29.9); and Wigan 77 (down from 82), with a rate of 23.4 (down from 24.9).

There have been no new virus-related deaths announced by Salford Royal Hospital.

Meanwhile, those aged 42 and 43 are now being invited for a vaccine..."Just two weeks after rolling out the vaccine to those aged 45 and over, we are now ready to invite those aged 42 and 43, as the largest vaccination programme in NHS history continues at speed" says NHS Medical Director, Professor Stephen Powis.
