Health Secretary Matt Hancock has announced that Salford and all of Greater Manchester is to be moved into Tier 4 from one minute past midnight tomorrow, Thursday 31st December... "It is absolutely necessary to take these measures because of number of cases we have seen" he said – even though most boroughs in Greater Manchester appear to have infection rates below the national average and some boroughs are seeing a decrease in rates. There has been no reaction yet from Salford or Greater Manchester Leaders. Tier 4 restrictions... The Government website states that "If you live in a Tier 4 area, you must not leave your home unless you have a reasonable excuse (for example, for work or education purposes). If you need to travel you should stay local – meaning avoiding travelling outside of your village, town or the part of a city where you live – and look to reduce the number of journeys you make overall. The list of reasons you can leave your home and area include, but are not limited to: work, where you cannot work from home accessing education and for caring responsibilities visiting those in your support bubble – or your childcare bubble for childcare visiting hospital, GP and other medical appointments or visits where you have had an accident or are concerned about your health buying goods or services from premises that are open in Tier 4 areas, including essential retail, but these should be within your local area wherever possible outdoor recreation or exercise. This should be done locally wherever possible, but you can travel a short distance within your Tier 4 area to do so if necessary (for example, to access an open space) attending the care and exercise of an animal, or veterinary services Businesses which must close include all non-essential retail, hospitality venues like cafes and pubs, with the exception of providing food and drink for takeaway (until 11pm), click-and-collect, drive-through or delivery. Leisure centres, gyms, indoor fitness and dance studios must also close, as must 'personal care facilities' such as hair, beauty, tanning and nail salons. | @ Rossie: Firstly, the super rich continue making money during tough times. It happened in the great depression, it happened during the wars and during the last financial crisis. So your idea that the super rich making money is evidence why the Pandemic is fake and put in place to make them money holds no water. Secondly, the people you mention were always going to continue making money anyway. Zuckerberg owns a website where most people will go to be 'social', and because many people are there more online companies will be paying for add space. Bezos is the same, he owns Amazon, so when people can't go out for non-essentials, they shopped at Amazon. Musk's companies are part-funded by the tax payer anyway so he's always going to have income. Also, he's one of you, he doesn't think it's that bad. Thirdly, if the point of the pandemic is to cripple the economy and gain more power, where are all the jobless going to work and earn money to buy stuff? Where's the government going to get the money to pay benefits? And I don't just mean our Gov, the others all over the world. Are they going to borrow more money from the sources they usually do until they can't borrow any more? Are they going to borrow money from Bezos and friends? Tanking the world economy to make the super rich richer and creating so many jobless people that they can't buy as much flies in the face of the modern economic system. People need money to spend and buy stuff to make these people richer. Why would they destroy the status-quo that keeps the normal people in check, jumping through hoops, buying stuff and aspiring to be like them, rich? Eventually people will be so poor next to no one will be able to buy anything. As for more power and control, constant oppressive lockdowns and grinding poverty would end up with the Gov being toppled. Your conspiracy theory is so stupid it's just a step below the flat Earthers. It's utterly moronic. |

Wtote, you're talking nonsense. The rich always get richer, even when the shit hits the fan. Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk have seen their combined net worth go up by 400 billion dollars since the start of the pandemic. For a lot of very wealthy people the pandemic has been the gift that keeps on giving. There was a story in the news yesterday, that the global financial markets are at an all time high ... that 2020 has been out of this world for investors. I can believe this as I know someone with substantial investments in the Emerging Markets, and he's always crowing about how much his portfolio is going up.

@Sue B: The restrictions aren’t working because people like Rossi and Darren are out not wearing masks and stalking testing sites respectively. And Darren the seasonal flu numbers fluctuate every year, it’s not been unknown to have very few flu deaths in a year. And in fact the average flu death rate is 17,000, not 30k+, though there have been bad Winter Flu death rates. Though high numbers are mostly to do with ‘viral shift’ and low-uptake of the flu vaccine. The only recent bad flu death rate that comes close to your flu death rate was the 2014/15 flu season which saw around 30,000 people die of seasonal flu. The only time you’ll see worse flu death rates was the times before mass vaccinations. To put the avg death rate of flu in to perspective with Covid in the uk 17,000 (Flu) to 71,567 (C-19). World wide, according the World Health Organisation, flu deaths are between 290,000 to 650,000 a year while so far 1.8 million C-19 deaths have been reported. And Rossi, you idea that the Gov are doing this to control us is baseless. They already had control of us with the economic and political system we have, money and political power is their control. Why would they wreck that by making themselves, and a lot of their friends poorer by crashing the economy? Just so the pharmaceutical industry can make a bit more money and they can tell you to wear a mask? It makes zero sense. The global pharmaceutical industry is worth $1.25T and year, while the global economy is worth $140.75T (once you deduct $1.25T). Why the fuck would anyone feed a tiny slice of the global economy at the detriment to the global? It’s batshit crazy. Given that the army was on the street enforcing lockdown in some countries, in the UK the army has been out only to test and the Gov have been light-handed and lockdown wasn’t, and still really isn’t, fully enforced. You know why? Because they’re scared of a voter backlash. Bit stupid of a Gov that wants completely control, isn’t it? It’s almost like they’re preparing for a future democratic election.

Darren- nobody is dying from flu because it isn’t transmitting due to the measures in place to stop the spread of covid. It spreads in the same way but is far less infectious. The impact on the NHS is also far greater as this impacts people with asthma, diabetes etc in a way that flu doesn’t. We are also now starting to see the effect of ‘long covid’. I’m as sick of the lockdowns and government incompetence as the next person but just we just need to get on with it. For what it’s worth I work at Hope hospital. I’ve also had it and it’s horrific, it’s not the flu at all.

At last I am reading some common sense. Did anyone believe a word a politician spoke before all this coronavirus hype, and that's all it is. They are terrifyingly the public with graphs and figures that no one really understands. Yes people are unfortunately dying from respiratory illness, but as stated this is not a new thing. We are being forced into restrictions, that are destroying people's lives and both financially and emotionally. I know my views count for nothing, let's hope there is someone in authority who.will stand up.and say enough is enough. The restrictions aren't working

We have had 9 months of this utter bollocks, all these new laws and restrictions with many more new laws coming. There Will be a night curfew next where you can't go out between 9pm to 6am, it's happening in some European countries now, you can only go out for work and it will be strictly policed by the Gestapo police. These unnecessary lockdowns will go onto summer next year because all the goverments are saying of this so called flu allegedly from Wuhan. How many people have sadly died from normal flu this year. The goverments say it's Mostly None, it's all been this flu allegedly from Wuhan. 30,000 to 60,000 people sadly die of flu related viruses every year in the UK, mainly people over 60. The Last 2 years in the last 2 cold winter periods of 2018 and 2019 we have had the NHS bombarded with flu cases and sadly elderly people have sadly passed away. It sadly happens every winter at all the NHS hospitals where the people are on deaths door hooked up to all the life saving equipment in the wards being treated for flu related viruses and every year the nurses and doctors go into these flu related viruses wards with hazmat protection suits on to treat the patients.. Now more small independent businesses are fucked, shops that don't sell essential stuff shut yet again, mass unemployment, people on JSA dole getting £73 a week, long queues outside foodbanks, more people in debt, more people losing homes.. People now can't go for a chinwag in people homes, people now can't socialize, people now can't hug, can't shake hands, no more human contact.. Black winter is coming next.
