Despite pleas by Greater Manchester Leaders to move the region down to Tier 2 restrictions, the Government today announced that all Tier 3 areas will remain as such apart from Bristol and North Somerset. "As we enter the coldest months we must be vigilant and keep this virus under control" said Matt Hancock, Health Secretary "We must keep suppressing this virus...We must be cautious as we accelerate the vaccine deployment. "I know that Tier 3 measures are tough but the best way for everyone to get out of them is to pull together, not just to follow the rules but to do everything they possibly can to stop the spread of the virus" he added "We've come so far we mustn't blow it now." "I know that many places in Tier 3 have seen their rates reduce...in most places we are not quite there yet and the pressures on the NHS remain" he explained "...For the vast majority of places currently in Tier 3 we're not making a change today..." Update: 1:30pm Greater Manchester Leaders have reacted angrily to the no-change local Tier system... Richard Leese tweeted: "Even though our numbers are better than either London or Liverpool's were 3 weeks ago, still in Tier 3. Unbelievable!" Andy Burnham tweeted: "If you look at the figures below it's not hard to conclude: when cases rise in the North, the North goes under restrictions. When cases rise in London and the South East, everyone stays under restrictions..." (see graphic) There has been no reaction from Salford City Mayor, nor Salford and Eccles MP Rebecca Long Bailey as yet. Worsley and Eccles South MP Barbara Keeley re-tweeted Andy Burnham's tweet...

Stop censoring peoples Steve. You're behaving like the people you appear to despise. It's not the way to be. I don't want to rebuke you, Boy, but I have to. There is a need.

What's wrong with council house Torys? There are plenty of socialists in Chelsea, Mayfair and Belgravia. There is even one on the Barbican estate.

What is it with all our jealous people who think it is wrong for people to buy council houses. I have heard a lot of these very same people say very bad things about the council allocating social housing to people who they do not approve of. Saying bad things that could not be printed here in a respectable journal like this. When I am 6 feet under, my grandson will be living in my house. And I am sure he would meet the allocation requirements of some of our jealous moaners, with 100% salford heritage going back to the year dot. Although a bit under the voting age , he is a keen labour man as well.,Thing is though ,with no mortgage or rent to pay, he will have every incentive to work. he will be one of the lucky ones, Salford youngsters from even our better off areas cannot afford to live in Salford unless they work their arses off to pay exorbitant rent to unscrupulous landlords. Like the jealous moaners,I don't trust the Salford council allocation policy, and thats one of the main reasons I bought my place. If you have bought your place, and the council move asbo types next to you, well, you can always flog it and move away. You cannot get a swop so easy if you are a tennant can you? I hated Thatcher, more than Arthur Scargill did,but like Arthur,I bought my council pad.Its the only good thing Thatcher did, and I am sure Arthur who made a million quid on his London flat would agree.

Well mr naughty North,I know nothing about this virus, and worry about it even less. I just mind my own business and wear a mask and keep out of everyone's way till I get my jab. It seems to me though that you seem to be a bit jealous of those who had got off their arses to do a bit of work. I know a good few decent people in the same boat as mike who for one reason or the other are not getting any help from the government. I love it when I hear the ranters go on about people buying their council houses. Jealousy again. The thing is,and its a proven fact, houses that are sold on last longer.Look at all the houses built by Salford council in the last 50 years, and knocked down by them. New houses today ,slum houses tomorow. never mind ,just vote Labour.

As I have said before here, my missus runs a crisis care team in an area of GM slightly north of here. She says that hospitals are no busier than normal, and the overwhelming majority of people in hospital with covid are the elderly who are quite well but unable to return to their care homes until they have had a second negative covid test. Bed blocking at its best or a general lack of capacity in our NHS Hospitals I will let you decide. Our hospitals are not over run with the desperately ill. We are being punished by Westminster who are busy taking the Greater out of Greater Manchester.

See Mike it's people like you, people who undoubtedly bought into Maggie Thatcher's Property Owning Democracy load of bollocks - who are deserving of no sympathy whatsoever. Go on, I bet you bought your council house for a 70 percent discount, didn't you? You petty bourgeoisie types sicken me with your bleatings, when the Capitalist Dream turns sour. Well Boo Hoo, Tears Fall. Cry me a river, Mike.

I don't know where the government get all these bollocks statistics from about people getting this so called Chinese flu, when all the covid 19 testing places are 99% empty. This country is fucked. Small independent family businesses that have been around for donkeys years are going to suffer and some have already shut. Pubs, bars, social clubs and restaurants are doomed and 1/3 of them will not reopen in the new year all because of this tier 3 bollocks. The hospitality industry employ about 3 half million people in the UK and many will go on the jam roll dole claiming £73 JSA a week. Mass unemployment is coming. Everyone skint. House repossessions the normal everyday thing and people can't pay the mortgage/rent on the family home and being kicked out and being made homeless. The only new jobs that will be in demand will be for police, Debt collectors and baliffs. People I speak to everyday have had enough of all this nonsense and new laws and restrictions by the government. We now can't do that, we can't do this, we can't do that etc etc. If I want to invite 30 family and friends around to my house over Christmas for a jolly old fashioned piss up, i will do. The covid police (German Gestapo) might come round and try stop me. I heard the other day Germany, Holland and a few European countries are on a night time curfew and are patrolled strictly by the police like the 1930s/1940s German Gestapo. Is this what is going to be in the UK shortly, a night time curfew with no one allowed out after 8pm. what about our freedom.

This is probably the most disgusting thing this government has done.I am about to lose my business that I have built over 13 years. And all because they are trying to prove a point of not arguing back with this stuck up lying scum of a prime minister.

I must say it looked like prejudice. Is Manchester being made to suffer because Andy Burnham spoke his mind and disagreed with some of Gov policy decisions. If that is the case, well it is like school boy sqobbles . Let’s grow up; look with justice and facts at the situation and decide what is the best way forward to work against this virus and encourage people to apply the rules and use their common sense to defeat this dangerous infection.
