Salford has 227 new confirmed cases of coronavirus, bringing the cumulative total to 8,047, up from the previous day's 7,820. There have been 1,611 cases in the last seven days of data, and a case rate per 100,000 population of 622.4.
Elsewhere in Greater Manchester, cases in Manchester during the latest seven day data period were 2,799 (up from 2,754), with a rate of 506.3 (up from 498.1). Other boroughs stats are Bolton 1,601 (up from 1,548), with a rate of 556.8 (up from 538.3), Oldham 1,567 (up from 1,500), with a rate of 660.9 (up from 632.6), Wigan 2,097 (up from 2,004), with a rate of 638 (up from 609.7), Tameside 1,134 (up from 1,073), with a rate of 500.7 (up from 473.7), Rochdale 1,361 (up from 1,317), with a rate of 611.9 (up from 592.1), Stockport 1,155 (up from 1,105), with a rate of 393.6 (up from 376.6), Bury 1,011 (up from 986), with a rate of 529.3 (up from 516.3) and Trafford 1,058 (up from 1,012), with a rate of 445.7 (up from 426.4).
There have been three new virus-related deaths announced by Salford Royal Hospital. Salford has now seen 301 deaths (within 28 days of a positive test) since the start of the pandemic.
Meanwhile, in the North West as a whole, 335 COVID patients were admitted to hospitals on the latest data day, 25th October, and on 27th October there were 2,483 COVID patients in hospitals, 212 of whom were on ventilators.
On a seven day average, up to 22nd October, 264.9 COVID patients were admitted to North West hospitals, compared to 412.9 at the April peak of the pandemic. However, the actual number of patients in these hospitals over a seven day average is 2,217.4, compared to 2,789.7 at the height of the April peak. If this pattern continues the seven day average could overtake the April peak within the next couple of weeks.
However, the number of COVID patients on ventilators in the North West is currently running at 197.6 on a seven day average, compared to 326 at the height of the April peak. This could be because medics are treating patients with better drugs and oxygen before they reach the intensive care stage.
