SALFORD HAS NINETY NEW CORONAVIRUS CASES AS GREATER MANCHESTER LEADERS SPELL OUT RESTRICTION CHAOS
|
|
Star date: 26th September 2020 FEW PEOPLE SELF-ISOLATING...'SIGNIFICANT MINORITY' NOT COMPLYING WITH RESTRICTIONS...MEASURES ONLY HAVING 'LIMITED EFFECT'...SCHOOLS NEED TO REVIEW POLICIES Salford has ninety new confirmed cases of coronavirus, bringing the cumulative total to 2,814, with a high positivity testing rate in the week 1th-19th September of 6.5%. There have been no new virus-related deaths announced by Salford Royal Hospital. Meanwhile yesterday, Greater Manchester Leaders spelled out the limited effectiveness of the current restrictions, with less than 11% of people self-isolating when told to do so, a 'significant minority' of people not complying with the rules, and a call for schools to review how they implement the policy of sending pupils home.. Salford has ninety new confirmed cases of coronavirus, bringing the cumulative total to 2,814, up from the previous day's 2,724. Elsewhere in Greater Manchester, cases in Manchester rose to 6,548 (up from 6,308), followed by Bolton 4,409 (up from 4,283), Oldham with 3,957 (up from 3,867), Wigan 3,149 (up from 3,059), Rochdale 3,135 (up from 3,043), Tameside 2,812 (up from 2,747), Stockport 2,538 (up from 2,495), Trafford 2,157 (up from 2,112) and Bury 2,413 (up from 2,334). The Government last night announced that Stockport and Wigan have now come back in line with Greater Manchester restrictions due to their high numbers of cases. Statistics released yesterday by Greater Manchester Mayor, Andy Burnham, show the seven day rate of positive cases per 100,000 population in Salford to be 136.8 for the week ending 21st September, slightly below the Greater Manchester average of 140.6 but almost two thirds higher than a month ago. Salford's positivity rate per 100,000 people for the week 13th-19th September was 6.5%, one of the highest in Greater Manchester (see graphics). There have been no new virus-related deaths announced by Salford Royal Hospital, although COVID-19 hospital numbers in Greater Manchester are going up – latest figures show that while weekly admissions are almost static, there are eight more patients in ICU (Intensive Care Unit) beds than the previous week, and 35 more patients in non-ICU beds (see graphic). The overall numbers of COVID-19 patients in Greater Manchester were six times higher back in May. In terms of care homes, there has only been a 0.1% increase in residents with confirmed COVID-19 or showing symptoms, up from 0.6% to 0.7%. Meanwhile, at yesterday's Greater Manchester Leaders' press conference, the current state of restriction chaos was laid bare, with Deputy GM Mayor Beverley Hughes saying that a hoped-for abatement in the level of large gatherings "has not happened"... Last weekend saw five hundred reports to police of restriction breaking, with 350 house parties and 27 Fixed Penalty Notices issued, including 16 at one event.... "Whilst the majority of the public are complying, there is a persistent and significant minority of people who aren't doing so" Hughes said "and at the moment there is little indication, depressingly, that this behaviour is actually changing significantly for that group of people." Andy Burnham quoted the figure from the national press that only 11% of people are self-isolating when requested to do so by NHS Test and Trace, and added that in Greater Manchester he believed the number was even lower..."This is nowhere near good enough" he explained, adding that using restrictions alone to control the virus will not work. "There are doubts about the extent to which restrictions have been effective" he explained "At best we can say that they've probably stopped a growth in cases that we might otherwise have seen. But the patchwork nature of these restrictions and the confusion amongst the public, particularly now in terms of how they relate to what was announced by the Prime Minister earlier this week, I think, is diminishing any remaining effectiveness that they have. "I wouldn't say that they are completely ineffective but what we do see is limited effectiveness which probably diminishes over time" he added later "I would say to the Government that they really do need to review this strategy. Restrictions are almost becoming the only tool they are using...Test and Trace is where our attention should be but it's not working..." Calling again for the diversion of money currently being spent on failing national schemes into local test and trace teams, Burnham also called for proper financial support for those affected by regional restrictions and a local furlough scheme. "Fixing Test and Trace is the answer, not loading more and more restrictions on local authorities" he emphasised "With the case numbers we have at the moment it is hard to argue against measures that will seek to try and bring those numbers under control...but there is a limit to what any restrictions like these can achieve and we believe the Government would be much better in focusing on fixing Test and Trace." In answer to a question on whether schools should remain open, Burnham responded that they should, although a review was needed into how they are operating the regulations, with pupils being sent home for long periods of time, maybe unnecessarily... "It might be that children are being sent home who have had no contact with the person who was testing positive, so that seems to be a highly cautious approach" he added "It could see students spending a large amount of time out of school in GCSE year and that can't be right. We need a review of the way it's being implemented by schools." In terms of GCSEs and A Levels, Burnham called for proposals to come forward now, to avoid the "chaos" of last summer..."The conversation needs to start now about what allowances are going be made for young people who may face significant weeks out of schools and colleges this year as they're building towards exams. We need to have clarity..." And in terms of the hospitality industry, 'night-time economy adviser' Sacha Lord, said that the Government was "about to kill the night-time economy" in which 420,000 people are employed throughout the region. Sacha argued that this week the Chancellor "turned his back" on this sector with the announcement of underwhelming financial measures which left freelancers who work in theatres, live music venues and night clubs with no support since March and many venues in peril. He was going to ask the Government to re-visit aid for the sector, which is the fifth biggest in the UK. In terms of controlling the virus itself, Andy Burnham concluded that what was needed was financial support for those told to self isolate, and for Test and Trace to be fixed..."We need a wholesale change to take resources out of the national system that is not delivering results, and that money needs to be redirected to teams on the ground" he said "That is the only hope we've got...a major transfer of resources from national to local teams...."

| Lots of Police officers have sadly died all around the UK because of this Chinese flu, I've looked it up, but no London METROPOLITAN police have sadly died. Rossi @ JSA layabout. this is my last comment aimed at you because I'm bored off you and also you waffle on about utter bollocks and im a busy person. I deal with Long term JSA dole people like you everyday and half of them don't want to work and just claim benefits for years. A great shame a great shame. You should be out searching for a job at 52 years of age and not playing Tom toad by spruce Springsteen and red earth by new model army and pink Floyd songs while drowning your sorrows with Magnus pear cider in your flat. You should be out helping the community or out litter picking clearing the rubbish and shit around broadwalk, langworthy and Pendleton, not sat at home doing jack shit pretending to be Simon Bolivar. There is jobs out there on various job websites, no excuse, you sound like a good kid. I'm drinking my chilled bottle of Newcastle brown ale now. c'este magnifique. That's it. |

| Darren, Old Son, type into google - Information Rights Unit - Police Officer Deaths due to the coronavirus - Met Police.
You will then be able to download a pdf from the Metropolitan Police in response to a Freedom of Information Request, Reference Number: 01.FOI.20.014369, Which will say, amongst other things "I have been advised that there have been no deaths of frontline officers in relation to the coronavirus."
Now let me state, Darren, there are 32,683 frontline Police Officers in the Metropolitan Police Service, and not one of them has died of covid19. Res Ipsa Loquitur. |

| Many frontline key workers have sadly died because of Chinese flu including many constable dibble that work on the front line.. I've just spent about 10 minutes looking at different news articles over the last 6 months about UK police that have sadly died because of Chinese flu and there is quite a few in the UK.. People should STILL keep to social distancing from other people and should STILL wear facemasks. I'm currently on eccles precinct and half the citizens are NOT wearing facemasks and no one is social distancing, I've just spotted about 8 citizens having a chinwag outside a shop not social distancing. I'm getting my bacon sausage barm from a local bakery and Im the only person in the queue of 7 people wearing a Face mask. |

Even if it was 0.01 percent. Why is the small task of wearing a mask to save that small percentage an issue?
Sounds like if you saw a baby drowning you'd leave it as you'd get your feet wet. What a lovely person you are.
As for that youtuber, how could he possibly know that about the police. It isn't public info. We are only told of officers that die whilst on the job, mot ones that die of illnesses. He's making it up. Take your tin hat off and read some actual peer reviewed papers on covid and you might learn something. |

Thousands and thousands of people have sadly died in the UK from this Chinese flu including about 650 NHS staff and care home staff and many many more people who work with the Joe public. | Look, I don't mind the personal abuse, my shoulders are broad enough to take it, but I stand by everything that I said, and what's more, I know that the silent majority of SS readers will agree with the points that I made. People like Rimmer, also known by the names of Captain Bollocks and Smeg Head in Red Dwarf, are merely showing their sheep like subservience to The Men Who Give Orders. They are the kind of people who are scared. Scared of everything. There is no reasoning with such people. Fact of the matter is, that this virus kills off about 0.01 percent of infected people, mostly the over 90s and the people with underlying health conditions ..... yet to the Arnold Rimmer's of this world, it is The Black Death, a plague so dreadful that it will probably wipe out two thirds of the world's population ... but it won't, as it kills 0.01 percent of the population, and has been petering out for months. But you carry on wearing your masks, Arnold, and sanitize your hands at least fifty times a day, there's a good lad.
P.S, I was outside Eccles Morrisons the other day, and this bloke walked in wearing a 1980s style SAS Raid on the London Embassy gas mask. Chances are he was only going in to buy some milk and get a Euromillions lucky dip. What a dick! |

| Wrote, it may come as a suprise to you, but covid19 has been a financial boon to the world's ultra rich. They have actually increased their wealth substantially, and we're talking billionaires here. The only people being hurt by covid are the poor, many of whom are black and minority ethnic. What we are seeing here is yet another example of the ultra rich exploiting a situation, with the willing connivance of national governments, to financially bless the ultra rich and their cronies. I had a friend, he's an investor. He's not ultra rich, but he's got three quarters of a million quid invested in stocks and shares, most of which is in the Emerging Markets, and he's seeing his investments rise and rise. Now imagine how much more it is rising for the billionaires of this world.
This whole scenario that we are living through is yet another manifestation of what happened with the Sub prime Mortgage fiasco of a decade ago, which led to world governments enforcing socialism for the rich capitalist class, and austerity for everyone else. The banks etc, were bailed out. Failiure was rewarded, and everyone else got ten years of austerity .... during which time the ultra rich saw their bank balances rise exponentially. They will be doing the exact same thing by using covid 19 as a Trojan Horse, an excuse that allows them to get their snoughts into various financial troughs, and to make it rain money on themselves ... and a couple of years down the line, these political dick heads who are allowing all of this bollocks to happen, will find employment with the banks and the investment houses that are benefiting so much from this new crisis. Ask yourself this, if things are so bad because of covid19, then why is Wall Streets share prices at an all time high? Wake up and smell the coffee. This is a virus that has been turned into a financial coup by the world's elites, and is now just another way for the One Percent to suck even more blood from the Ninety nine Percent that are left doing all the work. It is all a con. An invisible financial coup d'etat. |

| @Rossi: Why do you not understand this disease is deadly not only to those who are elderly and have underlying conditions, but deadly to young healthy people? I’ve read many pieces about healthy people reacting badly to Covid-19. Just the week I read a story, look up “Neil Walklett” and read that. I also read a piece where scientists have discovered why some people react to it badly. Look up “Scientists trace severe COVID-19 to faulty genes and an autoimmune condition”. That would go some way to explain why people react to the virus in various ways. The point of wearing masks it to limit the spread so it doesn’t rip through the clinically vulnerable community and to stop those who are at severe risk but don’t know it from getting sick. Masks aren’t perfect, but they reduce the viral load significantly. It’s not about control of the people, but the virus. Money is the powers that be’s bottom line, anything that is bad for business is bad for them. Do you really believe they would damage the economy just so they can tell us what to do more? I’ll admit their flip flopping on rules and regs have been confusing to many, but this is because they were walking the line between public health and economic health. Though I believe a big dose of political incompetence hasn’t helped either. |

These dossers, some of them crack heads, others heroin addicts, also alcoholics, they number about twenty. As you can probably imagine, they are not in the best of health, what with their weakened immune systems. Anyway, they hang around, doing whatever they do, in all weathers, rain or shine. I often see them coughing and sneezing ... and you never see them wearing masks, and you know what, since the thing started, this collective hysteria that's on a par with what occurred during the Salem Witch Hunts, with everybody seemingly panicking and doing what Big Brother tells them ... Yeah, that's right, not one of those dossers has died. Now tell me, if covid19 is The Black Death Mark 2, how is that possible? 🤔 |

| Unsinkable Titanic, One of my favourite films is called Hombre. It's a 1960s Western starring Paul Newman as a white man raised by the Apaches. There's a great line in that movie. That line is, "We all die, it's just a question of when." It is so very true. My advice to you,is to stop flapping. Stop panicking. After all, panic is contagious. Instead, be more like the men on the unsinkable Titanic, who let the women and children get into the lifeboats, and waited calmly for the ship to sink, while the band played on.
You see, Son ... it's apparent to most people now that this virus has been exaggerated out of all proportion. These crazy made up up rules and regulations, which make no sense - are all about controlling people. A 0.01 percent death rate, is not a valid reason for the elected government of a nation to put its citizens through all of this. It is a joke. |

| Titanic, stop reading The Sun and actually do your research! Less people die from Covid than they do of heart disease, fact! Mostly those who died were over 80 and had underlying medical conditions which meant that the common cold may have finished them off, fact! Many of the so called Covid deaths were not caused by Covid, as confirmed by the government, fact! Coronavirus has been around for many years, fact! My parents both died in NHS hospital of Sepsis, they went in with other things, and never came out, many elderly have the same issues, it’s the way it is, most of them with Covid who didn’t die in hospital were sent home or worse back to nursing homes where still the infection rate is over 40%, fact! 99.9% of people who catch Covid get minor symptoms, fact! The same amount of people 0.01% of the population die of the flu! Yes Covid is real, yes people have sadly died, yes people may still have ongoing issues, the same can be said with those who can’t have cancer treatment or the 000’s who have DIED from minor heart attacks during lockdown due to not going to hospital. Death from suicides far exceed the number of deaths from Covid. These statistics are all widely available on government websites. They won’t be published in THE SUN. So Titanic, instead of wishing people like Rossi ill/dead, YOU should get your facts straight. You probably won’t read this until you get back from bulk buying your bog rolls and pasta. | Citizens don't care no more, in my job I speak with a lot of local citizens every day and 75% of them don't give a shit no more and the other 25% of them take this Chinese flu very seriously. Some people have got this attitude of "if I get it so what". People are STILL having parties and barbeques with about 30 people and people are STILL going to shopping centres without facemasks on and not social distancing while out shopping.. The funny thing is now when you walk down a little path and some citizens stop and avoid like you have got the killer plague.. At the end of the day the Chinese flu out there is not killing people (only a few people now sadly) like it did earlier this year and people STILL need to social distance and not touch anything the Joe public has touched and wash hands a lot more.. This Chinese flu started in the city of Wuhan in about the first week of October, so it's nearly a year now and by next year hopefully it will be 99% gone and you won't hear about in the news every bleeding day doing your head in. We have had lots of killer viruses in the last 50 years and we have all got on with our lives, remember AIDS in the early 1980s, swine flu about 2009 and many more. In the UK thousands and thousands and thousands of people sadly die of flu every year. | Paul Kelly, Calm down. You are behaving hysterically. This virus first came to light in China, ten months ago, and since then it has killed an estimated one million people worldwide. Which still leaves approximately seven billion, nine hundred and ninety nine million of us. Paul Kelly, the Covid19 virus is NOT the Black Death, which killed approximately two thirds of the population of Europe. It is a Storm in a Teacup. The Government are using it as a way of learning just how much control they have over people. Scared people. People like you ... and Darren the Debt Collector. The Government would never, in its wildest fantasies, have believed that in a free society, its citizens would be this easy to control. And in the Government's cack handed and inadequate response to everything, there has been a Monty Python sense of surrealism. It has been truly absurd. The Rules, which look as if they've been made up spontaneously by somebody on an LSD Trip, and the inevitable case of Government advisers flagrantly not following their own rules, and refusing to resign, and then, in the case of Cummings, not being fired; have merely highlighted the absurdly hypocritical nature of HM Government. Then you have the all around general insanity of The Rules. Which are actually new laws. Laws which state things like "It is now an offence for people of different households to visit each other." And yet the pubs are still open, and the supermarkets are full of people. For my opinion, it is as if the nation has drifted off into the realm of Alice in Wonderland. No Paul, if this virus was as fiendish as the various Scientists from the many Health Bodies around the world have made out, then after ten months, about fifty million people would have died. Especially when you realise that as this is a new disease, there is no cure, and that we live in an age of global travel, where anywhere in the world is just hours away .... Oh, and ask yourself this, if the Government are genuinely taking it seriously, why, in the last ten months, have none of the airports been closed to business, thus allowing millions of people to fly into the UK every week, none of whom were tested for things like an increased temperature, which is one of the signs of a virus; before the newly arrived passengers left the airport, and got in taxis, and on busses, and went on the tube, or trains, before going into supermarkets etc ... thus potentially spreading covid19 all over the place. Logic tells me, that if this is so serious, the first thing the Government of an island would do is stop air travel. As an island we would have been insulated. Yet the Government locked society down for three months, and left the airports open. That should tell you everything that you need to know. |

| Shock horror virus infections rising rapidly mostly in the deindustrialised areas of the country and the most to suffer under tory lib/dem austerity cuts and decades of underinvestment and criminal neglect over the last 40 years. One need not have been a soothsayer to see what the result would be of allowing students and school children to return to study without a serious plan of action to try and contain the spread of this virulent virus into the wider community nightingale schools could have been set up retired teachers could have been recruited to teach in smaller class sizes transport should have been provided exclusively for pupils so avoiding the private transport system and avoiding passing the virus on to others students should be doing more work on line we now see the consequences with students at manchester university locked down and many more will soon find themselves in the same position through the incompetent way these tory idiots are running things a new total national lock down is on its way for sure.Taxpayers money is being scandalously given away without scrutiny or discussion in parliament to private companies like serco whos track and trace program is a complete joke along with millions of pounds given to dubious health providers who are providing equipment that does not work and is dangerous to use the money wasted on these spivs could have been given to extend the furlough scheme to save working class peoples jobs not line tory shareholders pockets richie sunak the chancellor is going to increase unemployment on a grand scale the furlough should be extended and what helps on offer to the most poverty stricken nothing no repeal of the bedroom tax no increase for people on legacy benefits and with winter on its way no extra help for millions in fuel poverty the evil tory scum bags dont want to feed children in the school holidays shameful swine the economy of the markets got to end it is not fit for purpose Neo liberalism is failing the people of this country we need to renationalise all utilities and public services to benefit all not just the rich and privaliged collective effort and common ownership is the way forward we need the spirit and action of 45 and the re creation of the welfare state. |
