Salford has 15 new confirmed cases of coronavirus bringing the cumulative total to 2,004, up from the previous day's 1,989. Salford now has a rate of 62.4 cases per 100,000 people, one of the worst in the country
Elsewhere in Greater Manchester, cases in Manchester rose to 4,687 (up from 4,634), followed by Oldham with 3,088 (up from 3,070), Bolton 2,794 (up from 2,740), Wigan 2,430 (up from 2,415), Rochdale 2,418 (up from 2,404), Stockport 2,066 (up from 2,049), Tameside 2,106 (up from 2,075), Trafford 1,782 (up from 1,769), and Bury 1,712 (up from 1,693).
There have been two new virus-related deaths reported at Salford Royal Hospital, and the Salford Star understands that there are an average of two patients per day being admitted to the hospital with COVID-19 symptoms which hasn't fluctuated much since July.
Meanwhile, last night, the Government imposed new strict limits on gathering of more than six people from next Monday, backed with fines of £100 doubling on each new offence. The regulations do not apply to schools, workplaces and some other venues.*
"You should only socialise in outside public places (like parks) in groups of up to 6 people from multiple households" it stated in a missive last night "Gatherings larger than 6 should only take place if everyone is exclusively from 2 households or support bubbles and must not exceed 30 people. You should always socially distance from people outside of your household.
"You can play a team sport only where this is formally organised by a sports club or similar organisation, and sports-governing body guidance has been issued" it added "...We advise that all other sports activities should not take place with people who you do not live with at indoor and outdoor public venues."
