SALFORD HAS LARGEST NUMBER OF VIRUS CASES FOR MONTHS

Salford has 46 new confirmed cases of coronavirus bringing the cumulative total to 1,970 – the highest number of cases for months. There have been no new deaths at Salford Royal Hospital.

With cases totalling over 150 in the last week, Salford City Council and Salford City Mayor have said almost nothing publicly. Now surely is the time for the Council to publish daily figures of where outbreaks are occurring and all other information it has, as the community looks for some kind of leadership.

Salford has 46 new confirmed cases of coronavirus bringing the cumulative total to 1,970, up from the previous day's 1,924.

Elsewhere in Greater Manchester, cases in Manchester rose to 4,568 (up from 4,497), followed by Oldham with 3,047 (up from 3,023), Wigan 2,393 (up from 2,378), Bolton 2,695 (up from 2,590), Rochdale 2,383 (up from 2,341), Stockport 2,039 (up from 2,022), Tameside 2,045 (up from 2,017), Trafford 1,758 (up from 1,742) and Bury 1,677 (up from 1,646).

There have been no new deaths at Salford Royal Hospital.

Salford has now had over 150 positive cases of the virus in the last week, while the current number of cases is the highest for months – yet there appears to be no leadership from either Salford City Council or Salford City Mayor, Paul Dennett. 

Residents are either fearful of the virus or dismissive: confused definitely; caught between growing misinformation and scepticism on social media and wild lurches in policy by Government and calls from local politicians.

A few months ago, councils were complaining that they didn't have accurate up-to-date information on cases. This appears to have been sorted now but there is no information getting through to the public, apart from figures published nationally and rates released weekly by Greater Manchester Mayor, Andy Burnham.

Salford Council and its out-of-his-depth City Mayor are not speaking directly to the community about the pandemic at all. Neither are they releasing any information about outbreaks and testing, the two most asked questions to the Salford Star.

The information that is available is usually way behind – for instance the latest map of Salford cases produced by the Government is five days old. If people knew how the virus was affecting their community daily, they might be more likely to abide by the current rules around social distancing and mixing households.

As it stands, there is no leadership in Salford, apart from social media sceptics pouring out conspiracy theories and misinformation...

Your antipathy towards so called Dole-heads is very amusing, Darren. I particularly loved the way that you subtly bigged yourself up by explaining how you spoke to them "nicely", as if you're Big Chris in Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Thing is Darren, people are understandably thinking that Coronavirus "ISN'T " the Black Death. Hence the lack of concern now being shown. Interesting fact for you, in Los Angeles's Skid Row, health officials have been amazed to find out that only a few of the homeless have died of covid19. And these are people, the denizens of Skid Row, who live in a densely populated area, aren't able to sanitize their hands fifty times a day, and are for the most part, not wearing masks. P.s. I passed Cash Converters before. The Kwak riding dopey pillock wasnt there, but a bloke who looked like he'd ate all the pies was. Is the Pie Eater your mate or Kwak Man? Only asking, cos maybe I could get a decent deal out of one of them if I name drop Daz the Debt Collector.

KEV @ bang on, people don't give a toss. I was in the bakery this morning for my mid morning scran (bacon sausage barm) and was in a queue of about 10 people and I was the only one wearing a Face mask. While I was stood in the queue these 2 doleheads was stood next to me and not keeping distance, so I told them in a nice way to keep 2metres away from me, these people started tutting and gave me dirty looks, so I told them in a nice way(of course) to stop it.. At the end of the day half the people on Swinton, Eccles and Pendleton precincts are not wearing face masks and keeping distance. The price of disposable facemasks now cost under a quid, that's it. Some People don't give a shit.

Just go to Salford Shopping City, and you'll soon see why cases are increasing. Absolute idiots not giving a monkeys about anyone. Whether you believe it's as bad as they say or not, have a bit of respect for others and wear a mask, and keep your distance.

I've been busy all day and finished work 20 minutes ago and I've just looked on this article 8 pictures and seen the mayor of Salford doing jack shit and smiling. Does he know about the situation we are in. He should be doing his job, he gets paid enough. I'm annoyed at Paul dennett.

Perhaps the Mayor and Salford City Council dont want to lie about the numbers being down to more testing being carried out and thereby raising the fear level with the prospect of more control over the Salford public.

I've passed Salford 2 primary schools playgrounds at dinner time and none of the kids was social distancing.. I also passed a group of pupils outside a Salford high school this morning and seen lots of pupils not social distancing in groups and not wearing face masks.

Re: Swinton High School. Some holes in the distancing policy there. On Friday,a group, probably 30, boys left the school for football. They queued at the field gate, all packed together. Then on the field they were gathered in a group to be instructed.

Alice is correct. Districts should be used. The broad-bush description is misleading. Are there not districts in Salford where the number of infections is a mere fraction of the worst districts.

If we were told the areas or districts where infections appeared to be focused then people living in those area or using them for work, would be more careful about the rules. . If this is the information that the Council has then it is its responsibility to publish this. Perhaps they are afraid of appearing discriminatory and don’t wish to create bad feelings towards areas . This is a risk to take but one which could help reduce any concentrations of infection spread.

They would only blame the Government as if it were there fault that people get the virus. Time to say that people are not taking care and following basic advice that would help avoid infection.

Salford has 7 new coronavirus cases, down from the previous day's 14, while the seven day rate per 100,000 population now stands at 30.1, down from 30.9. There have been no new virus-related deaths announced by Salford Royal Hospital.

The Griffiths brothers of Higher Broughton are kind of infamous as the only people to be forcefully evicted from their house as part of the Pathfinder 'housing market renewal' project during the first decade of the 21st Century.
