The elitist, the rubbish, the controversial, the irrelevant, the not that bad and the over-the-border in Manc-land…welcome to the fab line up of Salford Events that John Merry has just signed off to the tune of almost half a million quid of local taxpayer's money for our public `entertainment' over the next year.
The events we're financing include the Manchester International Festival, a run and cycling race, Proms In The Park, some bonfire events, the Film Festival and the Ice Rink, which caused so much fuss last year. And the £474,472 is just the "net" cost to the Council of these events.
So where's the financial breakdown of each event? Where's the full costings so we know exactly what we're coughing up and for what? Well you could look at this great report with all the details on, posted on the Chief Executive Lead Member Briefing page of Salford's fab award winning website…Except that when you open the document it's blank…there's nowt there. Mr Merry isn't trying to hide anything from us I hope…
Try it and see…

Update: Just received a message from the Council...
"The Leader of the Council has asked me to let you have a copy of the enclosed report setting out the Events Programme for 2009/10
There seems to be a technical problem which has prevented the report from appearing on the council's website. Apologies for any inconvenience . "
We now have a breakdown of the full costings - which are over £600,000! We'll chew them over and re-post. Meanwhile the report on the Council's website is still blank as of Mon 9th March....
