The National Pensioners Convention (NPC) is asking local pensioner groups, trade unions, community groups, students, members of the public, MPs and councillors to make a stand at noon this Friday 21st June against the BBC's decision to means-test the TV licence for older people, and the Government's decision to make the BBC pay for the concession. Demonstrations will happen outside all BBC offices in the country and, locally, this will be at Salford Media City... "The NPC is absolutely clear – if we fail to protect this concession, the Government will begin looking at the winter fuel allowance and the bus pass" states the organisation "That's why we need as big a demonstration as possible out on the street next Friday..." | Why are we arguing, it’s simple, we don’t need a tv licence. The bbc is past its sell by date, it’s supposed to be A political, instead it’s biased in every thing it does, just look at brexit, it campaigns on behalf of the remoan group. If the bbc is so good, then go subscription, let’s see how good it is, but this won’t happen, because even the bbc know how crap they are, they need to force people to pay this tax. The bbc is living on borrowed time, the end is near. | As someone who pays over £100 a month to Sky,I find the annual Licence Fee incredibly good value for money ; six TV channels,several radio stations,sports,comedy,music,etc. I for one would be prepared to pay a higher licence fee,if the beeb agreed to use the increased revenue to retain free licences for the over 75. What do others think? |

| disgraceful that oap's should have to pay a license fee, when for so many of them, the TV is the only company they have! Its cruel!

| Not everyone needs a TV licence. I've not had one for 7 years now so asking councillors to provide proof is pointless. Same applies to job seekers. Just watch on demand programs and listen to radio, you don't need a licence then. |

| Rossi ,I agree people on Jsa should not have to have a tv licence to watch TV.on all chanels on tv serve up total shite and government subversive subliminal propaganda. The licence fee is used by the BBC to overpay its vast army of paedos who have not been caught yet by our dozy police force. I must admit,I do not have a TV licence myself, but there again I don't need to, I don't have a TV anymore. Mine broke so I slung it, and didn't get another. I am not at home much, I spend a lot of time at my good lady friends.She pays all her bills on the nail, but she won't buy a tv licence. Agrees with me that it's all a load of crap, but she still watches it all. Drives me XXXXXXX mad, that's why I retreat to the spare bedroom and write all the crap I write. By the way Rossi, have you got a TV licence? you can pay weekly you know. |

| Licences are there for verification purposes. From Idle gossip that I have heard, I have reason to suspect that at least two Salford councilors live at premises where a valid TV licence is not in force.In order to clarify matters ,could all councilors make available online a copy of their tv licence for inspection by the public. There have been irregularities before with Salford councilors and TV licences, including one where a councilor was successfully proscecuted. |

I have elderly neighbours who have to pay Rent and community charge, pay for dental and glasses plus other things. all because they paid into a pension scheme while working. These pensioners have paid into a scheme hoping to have it easy when they retire. But No the government takes nearly every penny of their pension one way or another.While paying a lifetime pension they are actually worse off because they paid into a pension scheme. Salford city council take the state pension increase every year in Rent and community charge by exactly the same amount as their pension increase,so they are actually worst off every year. |

| What about people on JSA, shouldn't they get a free licence? Old Pensioners have been having it good for years. I get £73 a week to live on, and I'm begrudgingly given that. If anybody deserves a free tv licence then it's me and my fellow unemployed citizens. But it won't happen, because we're seen as feckless workshy scroungers, rather than victims of globalisation. Which is what we are ... |
