Hannah Gaffey is a Salford girl educated at Light Oaks Infant and Junior School on Lancaster Road, and at Canon Slade Secondary School in Bolton, before gaining a degree at Queen Mary University, London.
She's currently volunteering for the Red Cross in Norway but has been accepted onto a Masters course at the University of Cambridge, an MPhil in Education (Globalisation and International Development).
"I was really excited when Cambridge offered me a place on the course but immediately began to worry about money" Hannah explains "The cost of studying and living there for a year is £24,000 minimum. However, I didn't want this to stop me from taking my place at the UK's number one university so I decided I would do everything in my power to make it happen. I have been writing funding applications to individuals, businesses and charitable foundations, some of which have been successful."
Two of her friends, Deanna and Latia, have set up a GoFundMe page to help with the fees*, while Hannah herself has started selling Tees For Fees t-shirts and tote bags with an illustration inspired by courageous women in her life.**
"I want to do this degree because I believe we should not simply strive for education for all, but a holistic, high-quality education for all" she says "I have been offered a place on this course because I have the ability to complete it, the only barrier to my success being lack of finance.
"My aspiration is that if I am successful in fundraising the money for my place, I can be part of making the necessary changes to our education system that ensures more state school educated kids gain access to these institutions" she adds "I am so grateful to everybody that has invested in this campaign so far and I hope they are proud to be able to say that they are helping me to get to Cambridge. Coming together to help each other is what community is all about."
Hannah's best friend, Adut, adds: "Buy this t-shirt of the everyday inspirational woman, to support an everyday inspirational woman..."
