It's almost two years since the Boxing Day Flood in Lower Broughton which saw Christmas trees and kids' presents washed away as the River Irwell burst its banks.
This week, however, the spirit of Christmas flooded through the area as Santa and the Snowman toured children's houses around Heath Avenue, Riverside and the Cambridge Estate handing out selection boxes and singing festive songs.
"We had a bit of an idea" says local resident, Keri Muldoon of Broughton's Flood Group "One of my friends had a Santa suit and a Snowman suit, so we thought for the flooders of 2015 we'd get dressed up.
"I asked Salix and the Council if they'd donate selection boxes and we got four hundred, so we've been going around hopefully trying to get to all the houses that have got kids to give them a little Christmas treat, and no more tears anymore just smiles all around. It gives the kids happy memories as well."
The Snowman, Santa and their little helpers also handed out letters from the Environment Agency giving out advice on how to receive flood alerts, the three types of warnings Flood Alert, Flood Warning and Severe Flood Warning - and what they mean.
However, the Snowman told the Salford Star; "It won't happen this year, we're going to be fine..."
Hopefully it will be another hundred years or more before the Irwell floods again but, next time, Lower Broughton residents will be ready...
