Amidst the benefit cuts and the posh apartments, everyone is trying to make sense of what's happening to Salford at the minute as the city splits into haves and have-nots.
The place is changing but ex-Cinnamon Dinner stalwart, Stephen Buckley, aka Buckers, captures what it is for those born, bred and blessed with seeing the some kind of magic around every corner.
Yep, Salford is a 'wonderland', if you have that inner attitude and know where to look; and Buckers captures the spirit in his new superbly crafted, ridiculously catchy, jangly new single that takes you on a sonic jaunt around the psyche of the city.
"Wonderland is a song built around metaphors that encapsulates aspects of life in my hometown as I see it" he explains "And that if you're not from round here - you won't understand some things. But this is the way we are. And I love that.
"It was written about four years ago, and I tried and tested the song with my old band Cinnamon Dinner but it never quite sounded right" he adds "So when I left, this was the only song of mine that I took with me. It is personal for me. And a little catchy too.
Recorded and mixed by a work friend of mine, I call him 'H'. He built the song up with me from just an acoustic guitar."
The accompany video to Wonderland is magnetic viewing too. It begins in the streets of Langworthy and moves to the gorgeous autumnal Buile Hill Park where the singer is chased by a cop for nicking his hat... 'If you're not from round here I would never expect you to understand...'
Wonderland by Buckers is out on Friday 1st December on all major platforms
