The Old Pint Pot, on Adelphi Street, is staging A Night At The Circus tomorrow, Saturday 18th November, with LED and fire performers, acrobats and live art, suffused in the beats of DJs Ruckuz, Sly Fandango, Miltoid and Darkoom.
The Night, which goes until 3am and is sure to be something very special, is also a fundraiser for voluntary organisation Lifeshare, which, for over 25 years, has been helping homeless and vulnerable people in Manchester and Salford with breakfast clubs, assistance, advice and support.
Lifeshare also runs an open house Christmas project to support people who are in particular need over the festive period. But it looks like this year's could be the last one, as Lifeshare is being booted out of its current premises on Dantzic Street, Manchester, near the new swanky Co-op building, as part of the NOMA 'regeneration'.*
"The future of our Weekend Breakfast project is rather uncertain at the moment" Lifeshare's Melissa Brown told the Salford Star "We can say for sure that our Christmas drop-in is going ahead as normal this year but we are still involved in negotiations about how to move forward in the New Year.
"Our last official breakfast service will be Sunday 31st December and we have begun clearing our clothing stores there in anticipation" she added "We have not found suitable new premises and are still looking but will be able to give more information on the whole situation after Christmas."
When news first broke of the homeless organisation's potential homelessness, Maxine Peake insisted "This service is absolutely vital to Manchester and its ever growing homeless community. It would be criminal if we can't find another space for Lifeshare to continue this essential work. We need to take a long hard look at ourselves and find ways to protect and support the most vulnerable in our city."
Tomorrow night's fundraiser is part of the process to support Lifeshare... "We think it's wrong they are about to get evicted and we want to help raise as much as possible on the night to help them find a new home" says Debi Blanchard from Greater Manchester Housing Action
"Lifeshare helps homeless young people from Salford and Manchester at a time when it's never been more needed" she adds "Their caseload is huge and growing in the face of the worst of the cuts and Universal Credit that's abolished rent payment for anyone under 22. The staff all work so hard, and this is our way of saying 'thank you' to them for all they do."
