Mosley Common in Bloom began only five years ago, as part of the RHS It's your Neighbourhood scheme, but has since cleaned up and beautified the Common, planted trees and flowers, commissioned a sculpture of a miner, organised the annual Scarecrow Festival and Dog Show, sorted Christmas lights and a tree, and gained the RHS Level 5 award, with an additional outstanding achievement award for Most Improved Community Project.
Now Mosley Common in Bloom has taken over the annual brass band contest and developed it into a full weekend of activities, which will take place from Friday evening, 1st September until Sunday 3rd September.
On Friday night the fair begins, which runs throughout the weekend; there's a table top sale on the Saturday and Sunday sees The Common Variety Performance, a free concert beginning at noon.
Compered by Steve Burton, the concert includes performances by the Ellenbrook and Boothstown Brass Band, Wigan Warblers, Chonkinfeckle featuring Corrie Shelley, Marie Paisey, Pauline Pantegi, Elysian, Young Once and The Seadogs. There will also be street dance, stalls, a licensed bar and refreshments.
