The independent Salford Unemployed and Community Resource Centre formed in 1980 and has since advised, represented and helped people in the city with welfare, debt, homelessness, illness and work related problems.
Now the Liverpool Road based Centre needs £48,000 to ensure its future and, as part of this, is to hold a bucket collection before the Salford Red Devils match against Leeds Rhinos tomorrow, at which the club is expecting a bumper crowd.
"Last year our staff and volunteers won back over £1,000,000 for our poor vulnerable and needy clients" says Alec McFadden, Centre Manager "We are both the good Samaritans and the fourth emergency service; we need the help of everybody to make the lives of our clients better.
"The work we do includes looking after ex-offenders, encouraging them to lead a life away from crime, drugs etc" he adds "We help the homeless through our breakfast club and we also deal in employment law, advising and representing people who have been unfairly sacked. We are asking our rugby and football clubs, and the celebs who are doing well, to support our campaign, and, thereby, the wellbeing of the community..."
The bucket collection outside the AJ Bell Stadium will be run by OFFA, the fundraising arm of the Salford Unemployed and Community Resource Centre. It will take place between 1:30pm and 3pm.
