The stunning Grade 1 listed St Augustine's Church in Pendlebury is also known as 'The Miners Cathedral' as it became a focal point for mourning following the Clifton Hall Colliery explosion on 18th June 1885, in which 178 men and boys perished.
The churchyard is home to the memorial to those killed in the disaster, and tomorrow, Sunday 18th June, a Miners Memorial service is being held between 11am and 12:30pm to remember those killed in mining accidents, especially in the Clifton Hall Colliery disaster...
"We would love to see as many as possible there" state the organisers "and if you cannot make it but wish someone to be remembered in our prayers, please send a message on email - firstname.lastname@example.org "
