Next Saturday, 10th June, the Manchester Revolutionary Communist Group: Fight Racism! Fight Imperialism! Is holding an anti-austerity, anti-cuts `speak out' on Salford Precinct, from midday.
"Our speak out is to enable the people of Salford to find a voice and demand representation from their elected leaders" states the RCG "Austerity cuts are a political choice - Salford City Council has chosen to fund private development rather than public services. We will be campaigning on an end to austerity measures, prioritisation of spending on public services for the poorest and most vulnerable residents of Salford."
The Group adds: "Salford has borne some of the worst of the cuts in the Greater Manchester region. Last week the council confirmed it had rejected 7,000 households from its social housing waiting list - a cut of 50%; elsewhere we've seen the mass sell-off of social housing property to Housing Associations. Salford City Council also plans to cut funding to The Grange, Salford's only care home for children with special needs, while Adult Social Care has been moved into the private sector to be managed by Aspire.
"Salford's Labour Council has repeatedly blamed the 2010 austerity measures for these cuts, but in reality they have been complicit in allowing these cuts to take place" it insists "While slashing public services and housing for the most poor and vulnerable sections of Salford they have been funnelling money into private developments. Salford is one of the most deprived cities in Britain, with an unemployment rate twice the national average and a quarter of children living in poverty, meanwhile the council has overseen land and property prices rise by double the national average."
There will also be an open mic to allow anyone with an anti racist, anti austerity message a chance to speak.
