SALFORD STAR POLL PREDICTS BARBARA KEELEY TO INCREASE MAJORITY IN WORSLEY AND ECCLES SOUTH

Star date: 2nd June 2017 GENERAL ELECTION POLL PUTS KEELEY STREETS AHEAD OF TORIES A random poll of shoppers in Walkden this morning showed Labour MP Barbara Keeley streets ahead of the Conservative Party candidate, Iain Lindley, in the race to secure the Worsley and Eccles South seat at next week's General Election. The Tories have targeted the seat where Keeley currently has a majority of almost 6,000. Yet, according to this sample, Labour is set to increase its majority to almost 9,000. Full details here...

This morning, the Salford Star was out surveying a completely random sample of shoppers in Walkden town centre*, to gauge voting intentions and knowledge of the candidates for the Worsley and Eccles South constituency before the June 8th General Election vote. We asked people whether they intended to vote, whether they could name any of the constituency candidates and who they would be voting for... 76.5% said they intended to vote, 15.7% said they didn't intend to vote, and 7.8% said they didn't know. 51% couldn't name any candidates - but, overall, 39.2% could name Barbara Keeley, while only 9.8% knew Iain Lindley. No-one could name the other two candidates Tom Dylan (Green Party) and Kate Clarkson (Liberal Democrat). Of those who intended to vote, 57.5% said they would be voting for Labour; 20.2% said they would be voting Conservative and 2.1% said Liberal Democrat...14.9% were still undecided and 5.3% didn't want to say. The Tories have been targeting this seat but, correlating voting intentions off this random sample, the Salford Star predicts that Barbara Keeley will increase her majority in the constituency from the current 5,946 to 8,986.

| RayofSunshine allow me to assure you I believe my many friends in the other parties are bright and responsible. I accept any democratic decision in good faith, which is why I support Mayor Dennett and Andy Burnham in their impossible roles. At the same time I today believe Conservatives have the better answers on local economy matters. My hope is our different party Councillors will find ways to build on post Brexit opportunities. Salford can become bigger, better and brighter for us all. |

When he is in his Salford property, he is enriching the local community; in Derbyshire.
Can we say reverse when he is in his Derbyshire property?
Many would argue; No!

My previous comment was not a dig at you. I know that you have worked very hard to achieve what you have done in your life and commend you.
It was a humorous but clumsy dig at Parliamentary Candidates who suddenly appear to have local addresses, sometimes printed on leaflets, in order to appear as local candidates.

| Hercules I think you miss the point. Whichever of my properties I am at the most important thing is to take part in enriching their local community. I am pleased to help societies in Spain, Cyprus, Australia as much as in Derbyshire, Yorkshire, Trafford and here in Salford. The future of each depends on us building strong and stable communities. I thank all those that give their time to us all. |

| Zis afteurnun, whilst sitting on the verandah of my Salford/Trafford/Downtown Manchester Quays flat (sorry "apartment" (that adds £50k to the price)) I heard my letter box flap. I retrieved a leaflet from the Conservative Candidate for Salford & Eccles. Being one for strict legalities, I checked to see there was an "imprint". I was pleased to see that there was but to my shock, horror and amazement, the Conservative Candidate can now claim to be a local candidate - for local people? - having moved from "address in the Richmond Park Constituency" as published by the Salford Acting Returning Officer on 11/05/17 to be a near neighbour of mine, living in a flat (sorry, "apartment" (I must remember not to depress local property values!)) on Elmira Way.
At my age, my "little grey cells" may be failing - and don't mind being corrected if someone has an exact date - but I seem to recall another of our "local" candidates doing something similar just before the 2015 election. She now says she will "..always live locally with my family."
Of our other two "local" candidates, I understand that only one of them was born in the UK and has lived in Salford for 20 years. So using logic and analysis by my "little grey cells" I will vote for a local by length of residence and someone who really understands local Salfordian issues. |

| Sat in my Derbyshire second home garden this lets me think of elections more clearly. The political landscape tells me Worsley with Eccles will be won by the Conservatives because the area is full of ambitious sensible thinking voters. This will bring success to the area by it becoming part of the Tory government. |
