Never mind Man United v Ajax, Cadishead Under 13 Girls won the South Manchester Girls Football League Cup last week, beating Hough End Griffins 3-1, with goals by Macy Sykes and Poppy Cooke, who scored two.
It's the first season for the girls' team, and coaches Rebecca Foster and Lee Hilton are delighted...
"If you'd have told us at the start of the season we would reach a final, we would have laughed at you!" they insist "However, the fact that we have now won the final shows how much progress each and every girl in the squad has made.
"We are so proud of the girls and it's a massive achievement for them in their first season" they add "It's been a pleasure to see the girls enjoying themselves and playing great football; they have been a credit to coach. Can we say a massive thank you to all the parents and family members of the girls - their support this season has been invaluable and has made our jobs a lot easier with their ongoing support."
The final was played at Flixton Football Club, was sponsored by the Manchester United Foundation and Well Child, and Coby Hilton, who is the team's biggest supporter, was the team mascot on the day. Poppy Cooke was voted Girl of the Match for Cadishead Girls by the South Manchester Girls Football League Committee.
"It was a fantastic game to watch and an amazing achievement for all the girls" said Natalie Allanson, manager of the U15's girls team.
The girls will be given their official winners' medals and trophy at a league presentation night on June 11th.
