Marwan Koukash has come in for a lot of comment in recent weeks, but his decision to donate the proceeds from the Salford Red Devils match against Catalans Dragons on Friday night to the Manchester bomb relief fund is a welcome and generous gesture at this time.
The Devils' owner announced via Twitter "just turn up, collect free ticket and make a donation for the victims of the Manchester attack"...The money already collected from existing ticket sales, such as season ticket holders, will also be donated to the relief fund, it was confirmed by club official Garreth Carvell.
A statement on the club's website reads...
"The Salford Red Devils will be making the entry fee to Friday's game vs Catalans Dragons voluntary, with all proceeds being donated to the families of the victims of the attacks in Manchester on Monday night.
"The Red Devils send our condolences to families and victims of the atrocities, and encourage supporters to give generously on Friday night.
Marwan Koukash is confident that the Red Devils faithful and beyond will come out in force... "This is a chance for the club and our supporters to show their respects to the victims of these horrible attacks, and show unity in the face of adversity" he said "Supporters will need to collect a ticket and submit their donation from the stadium box offices."
He also announced via Twitter that to commemorate the 22 victims of the attack, there would be a minute's applause during the 22nd minute of the game.
Supporters wishing to attend would be advised to get to the game early in order to pick up a ticket.
