Salford tonight entertained Hull KR, in what was a repeat of that never to be forgotten Million Pound Game. All Salford fans will ever remember is going into the last four minutes of the game seemingly relegated, then the magic happened - Jonno over in the corner, the run by Griffin, Evalds...the draw...golden point, then boom! Gaz O'Brien with the massive drop goal...fans on the pitch, jubilation, partying for days with the players...Oh what a weekend!
Well, after drawing Hull KR in the Challenge Cup I was expecting a real hard tie. No matter which way you look at this, it's Watson verses his old boss Sheens, while they wanted revenge for the million pound game. And the tie had added grudge, as fans produced 2,000 placards saying 'Salford Forever Manchester Never'...
The game ebbed and flowed as, to me, Salford seemed a bit flat. Hull KR seemed like they wanted it more, and went into a 14-0 lead. A shock was on the cards, even though Lannon scored just before half time, converted by Dobson, making the half time score Salford 6 Hull KR 14.
The first try of the second half would be so important. During the interval I bumped into Lisa Carter, who said 'This is their cup final, we need the first score', while Barry Jones said 'Do not worry, we will have this...'
I went back to my seat just in time for the kick off and boom! Within three minutes Koppy went over for a brilliant try, kicked by Dobson. We were right back in the game; Salford 12 Hull KR 14.
Brining, who is the signing of the season, made a sixty yard break from the scrum...what a try! The south stand was rocking. Doson hit the post with his kick from wide out, it was all Salford at this stage, as Hull KR did not know what had hit them...
Next to score was my man of the season big Ben Murdoch-Masila, and Dobson kicked the goal... Salford 24 Hull KR 14. This team is a fan's dream to watch...
...We are now two games from Wembley in what could really be our last chance as Salford to get there, with the name change controversy heating up. The passion of the Salford fans is coming to the front...
"It's an insult, why should a temporary custodian of the club have the right to abolish 144years of history?" said Darren Scholes "The idea that towns in Manchester such as Gorton will come flocking in their thousands is ludicrous. The investment he would have to make would surely be better made in Salford!"
