Tomorrow, at Ellesmere Sports Club in Walkden, the annual G-Festival is happening with a top line up of entertainment and bands. This year sees thirteen bands hit the stage, plus dance acts, DJs, a fairground, a Salford Lads Club football tournament and more.
Founded by Steve Murray in memory of his 19 year old daughter Georgia, who tragically died in 2010, G-Festival is now in its sixth year, having raised over £175,000 for a variety of fantastic causes. These range from building a school and wells in Cambodia, to providing school uniforms and breakfast clubs for children in Salford and Manchester, to creating five Georgia's Houses for Salford children and their families in partnership with The Life Centre on Langworthy Road.
This year, all proceeds will again go to Georgia's Children of the World charity and the bands and singers playing include The Total Stone Roses, Small Weller, Mike Sweeney and The Salford Jets, and Johnny Grogan with an Irish song set complete with the Haslingden and Blackburn Irish Club Dancers...
Linda Jennings, fresh from The Voice, will be performing and the two stages will also host Jennifer Rice who recorded Carry Me Home for the charity last year, the Ska rhythms of Blank Cheque, the post punk sounds of The Things, the rock pop of So Called Friend, the pure rock of Unknown Refuge and more.
"The event is run by an army of dedicated volunteers and we receive immense support from individuals and local businesses" says Steve Murray, who fronted the Seventies punk band Fast Cars "With a major funding boost from high profile local business people this year, G-Festival 2017 is going to be the biggest yet.
"The event will feature up-and-coming new talent, alongside some of the legends" he adds "It attracts a great crowd and raises funds that do amazing things for children around the world and locally. It's wonderful to see how funds the event raises can transform children's lives."
