Full Christmas feasts were served up this afternoon for homeless people at Cross Street Chapel in Manchester city centre, as Street Support Salford and Manchester, and Party Protest Manchester jointly organised a Community Festive Dinner.
Homeless people came in off the streets to partake in the festivities, which included music and crackers, with gifts of clothing, sleeping bags and wrapped Christmas presents. There was a even a big bag of treats by the door for any homeless people's dogs.
Food, clothes, presents and volunteers' time was donated by a wide range of companies, from Nandos to Go Outdoors, to the Bricklayers Arms, University of Manchester and Matalan.
"All different organisations and charities have donated, plus lots of individual people, everyone has been so great and kind it's unbelievable" said Angela Barratt, from Street Support Salford and Manchester "We're doing a dinner for the homeless because I think it's a good thing to do for them. They get a nice hot meal in homely surroundings and a present each."
Emma Leyla Mohareb, from Party Protest Manchester added: "We're trying to bring the community together with homeless people to make Christmas possible. A lot of homeless people don't really get to interact with the community, maybe because of the way they look. People might give them a bit of money but they don't usually talk to that person, so this event was to make everyone come together and feel the unity."
Meals and clothes were also delivered to the street homeless in the city centre who didn't make the party. All afternoon, people arrived with more gifts for homeless people as Manchester and Salford showed the love...
