MORE GREATER MANCHESTER MAYORAL CANDIDATES ANNOUNCED

Star date: 10th October 2016 GREEN PARTY, UKIP, LIB DEMS ANNOUNCE GM MAYOR CANDIDATES Almost all of the political parties have now announced their candidates to be Greater Manchester Mayor in the May 2017 election. It might be the election that no-one wants for a post that no-one wants but the race is now hotting up with the Green Party, Lib Dems, Labour Party and, yesterday, UKIP, naming candidates. The Labour Party confirmed a while ago that Andy Burnham MP was to be its candidate and red hot favourite to be Greater Manchester Mayor at the May 2017 election. Now the other political parties are catching up, with the Lib Dems confirming Trafford councillor, Jane Brophy, as its runner, and yesterday UKIP announcing that Salford's Shneur Odze had been chosen to front its campaign, subject to confirmation by UKIP NEC. Meanwhile, the Green Party confirmed last week that Deyika Nzeribe was to be its candidate, with a full launch at Media City plaza tomorrow (11th October), to be attended by Green Party Leader Jonathan Bartley. The Conservative Party is yet to announce its candidate, although Trafford Council Leader, Sean Anstee, has declared his interest in being the Party's chosen one. That would complete the line-up of established parties, although there are bound to be independents, Monster Raving Loonies and various other tryers throwing their hats into the GM Mayoral miasma. Whoever stands, for whichever party, will have their work cut out to gain public interest, as this really is the election that no-one wants for a post that no-one asked for. Expect apathy to be the probable winner. Plus some rather anti-democratic ways of doing stuff.

| Dave yes Ray is to blame. I know Michael Felse he is a good guy. With Michael defecting to another party and going to launch a none UKIP Mayor candidature in November I think it is time for Ray to end the vile hate campaign. |

| i love reading all of salford stars articles and i enjoy reading the debates that they provoke. its important vigerous discussion and debate is enterd into but honestly am i the only one fed up with comments back and forth from people who clearly dont like one another and just want to settle old scores and percieved wrongs. so can michael felse,rayofsunshine and anyone else give us all a break.leave your personal point scoring and can we have real debate about the issues.i am honestly interested in what you think about the issues raised not about what you think of each other. |

However I cannot support a Party leader that says it was OK for Trump to disrespect women. | I am confused. I thought that Mr. Felse had an interest in becoming the UKIP candidate for the Greater Manchester mayoral election, but now he condemns the whole idea.
My memory may be playing tricks but I am sure that there have been occasions when he has made suggestions [demands] for actions by the future mayor. Strange doing that for something which one doesn’t believe in.

| I will not comment on individual selections, but must condemn the basic idea of having a Greater Manchester Mayor. It is not wanted and will simply turn into a political platform. Danger is in using a vague ballot paper such as the Police and Crime Commissioner PCC where 6,800 votes were rejected, I think that was a crime itself. There will be only one winner. Based on the PCC results: Labour will lose 47% of its vote, that reduces Andy Burnham to 73,900. Conservatives can pick up 38% from the last PCC (Independents, Liberals plus Brexit new voters) giving the Tories 75,300. The rest of the 123,000 votes are up for grabs. Anyone can win but I will say based on my 40 years experience the candidate needs to hit headlines if the party wants to win. Losing does not come cheap - if you can't win save your money for the bigger battles ahead! |

| Well done Stephen Norris, the country is now going to shit, with sterling being at record lows, and the forecast being even worse, all because people don't like immigrants, well it's going to backfire because immigrants are here to stay and Brexit will not stop it.
