In 2015 Salford Community Theatre group started recruitment for its community theatre adaptation of Walter Greenwood's Love On The Dole - a play about community, family and the pressures of love, life and unemployment in 1930s Salford (see previous Salford Star articles – click here and click here).
Now, with the casting compete, the production is set to be staged from 5th-9th July, with two performances on the 9th, and the company is looking for volunteers to help out front and backstage.
"We are lucky enough to have a full cast of volunteer actors sourced entirely from the communities of Salford and Manchester – from those with experience to those who had never so much as stepped foot inside a theatre" says Cat Stobbs of Salford Community Theatre "They are an incredibly talented and hard working team and all of that enthusiasm will pay off in July when we bring the play to life for the people of Salford.
"Staging a play with a cast of thirty over the course of six performances is no mean feat and there are all sorts of areas where we would be grateful for the assistance of enthusiastic volunteers" she adds "You don't have to be available for all of the dates; if there is an aspect of theatre production, be that in costume and props or front of house and marketing that you would like to try your hand at we will come up with a schedule to match your availability."
The company is looking for volunteers in the following areas...Assistant Stage Managers, Stewards, Front Of House (Ushers, Ticket collection), Marketing and PR, Costume, Set, Props and Rehearsal support.
"We're also looking for anyone with any special skills, so if you're interested in the likes of art and design, or construction and lighting please get in touch" adds Cat "If any of this is sparking your appetite for community and theatre, or even just your curiosity we have a couple of events coming up where the production team and the cast will be more than happy to tell you more about the project and how you can help, as well as answer any questions you may have..:"
This Friday, April 15th, 8pm, at The Old Pint Pot pub (2 Adelphi Street M3 6EN), Salford Community Theatre is hosting an evening of socialising and raising awareness and funds for the production, with live music, spoken word and fundraising activities. Tickets are £5 on the door, it's open to everyone and all proceeds will go towards the production.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, 16th April, the company is rehearsing at The Hub on Taylorson Street in Ordsall (M5 3EX) and anyone interested in volunteering is welcome to pop in between 11am and 4pm.
