SALFORD LOCAL ELECTION 2016 SEES FIVE PARTIES CONTEST ALMOST ALL SEATS

Star date: 9th April 2016 TORIES, GREENS, LABOUR, UKIP AND TUSC CONTEST 21 SALFORD SEATS As well as the Salford Mayor election, May 5th also sees the election of local councillors, and this year 21 seats are up for selection. The Tories and Labour are standing in all 21 seats, the Greens are standing in 20, UKIP in 19 and TUSC in 18. There are also two independents standing in Langworthy and Winton, plus British Resistance, English Democrats and the Republic Party standing in three other seats. The Labour Party currently has 51 seats out of sixty overall in the council. Full details here...

With nominations having closed yesterday, the official list of candidates for the 5th May local election has now been announced. Originally, twenty wards were to be contested but Councillor Eric Burgoyne is standing down in Little Hulton, where there will now be two seats, giving a citywide total of 21 seats up for grabs. The Conservative Party and the Labour Party are standing in all 21 seats, the Green Party is standing in twenty seats, UKIP in 19 and TUSC in 18. British Resistance is standing in Barton and Swinton South, the English Democrats are also standing in Swinton South, while the Republic Party is standing in Pendlebury. Independent Mark Breeze is standing in Langworthy and Independent Paul Doyle is standing in Winton.

| David Grant - There is no UKIP candidate in Eccles because the person who was supposed to stand didn't get his nomination papers in before the deadline. And none in Winton because the party just didn't have anyone. UKIP contested 12 out of 20 council seats in 2014, 14 in 2015 and now 19 out of 21 (including a by-election) this year. |

| Today Tory Leader said "councils could be trusted to keep taxes low while getting things done and delivering more for less". With Osborne on track to demand £50million more cuts in Salford can the Tory candidates say how cutting £50million turns into delivering more? Tory lies will not prosper. |

| Probability is Labour voters in Salford make up the majority of 10,000 disappeared from the Council Tax list plus 12,000 not having re-registered under the new right to vote system. This looks to rob Salford Labour of 16,000 votes at the election. Expect to see the Salford Labour stranglehold very upset. |
