SALFORD COUNCIL INSTALLS £3,000 OF EQUIPMENT FOR GRANDSTANDING MAYOR SHOW

Star date: 17th March 2016 SALFORD MAYOR REIGN ENDS WITH STEWART PROJECTING WRONG IMAGE For the final Council meeting attended by Salford City Mayor, Ian Stewart, before he steps down, around £3,000 worth of media equipment was installed in the council chamber so that he could grandstand in front of councillors. A state of the art projector and screen was mounted for Stewart's presentation, and tickets issued for the three people in the public gallery, two of whom were trade unionists waiting to hear if he had anything to say about the Council's attack on trade unions. Well, Salford City Mayor, Ian Stewart, certainly went out with a pompous farewell yesterday, in keeping with his four year reign, as around £3,000 of media equipment was installed in the council chamber so that he could make a show of his `achievements'. Greeted by protests outside the Civic Centre condemning Council attacks on trade unions (see here), Stewart proceeded with a presentation that centred on development in the city – development where speculators have avoided over £20million in planning fees and providing affordable housing. Tickets for the public gallery were issued, with Stewart perhaps expecting a big crowd for his final fling. In the event, excluding the Salford Star, there were only three people present, two of them trade unionists waiting to hear the Mayor make a statement on the Council's current attack on UNISON, Unite and GMB, which never came. The projector for the Mayoral grandstanding was a Hitachi CP-WU8451 model, which retails for £2,532 (+VAT), while a similar screen to the one used would cost over £500. This comes on top of £672 worth of banners and `pull ups' draped over the Civic Centre and in the chamber at the last Council meeting, ironically decrying Government cuts. There are a lot of community groups that could currently do with over £3,500 to bring real achievements...

| I find it strange that on the front of the Town Hall there is a banner showing the public the Gov have cut £80mil (ish) from the councils budget, yet we still let developers off with fees. I don't think I will ever understand that. |

| Tories this weekend are destroyed by MR I.D.S, standing against cuts to vulnerable people. Yet in Salford we did not see one Councillor resign over local cuts, not one Labour, not one Tory, not a Councillor with the guts or heart. A Free Mayor can send them all to the dole queue using Mayor's Charter to place all those big debts into the realm of Councillor maladministration, before Councillors try to pin it onto Council Officers and Council Staff that have been forced to carry out the disgraceful acts of Salford Councillors. If any believes they are not to blame let them resign now before bailiffs are called in. Be sure the next 4 years will demand answers for mistakes taken in this Crisis Council's Chamber. The big wall screen may help them see the smaller print as we move into clearing the deck with all out. |

| I'm one of the trade unionists who attended in the public gallery. Utterly cringe-making performance. Who pays tribute to themselves? - and then has the cheek to say: 'if I have a fault, it's that I don't talk enough about what I've achieved'. Then, to cap it all, claimed credit for Salford Quays which began years ago while he was in London. Time for a sharp exit at 10 am. Unbelievable. |

| I would compare my friend Ian Stewart with Michael Rodwell on Corrie. Everything wrong is everyone else's fault. Come on Ian is SORRY the hardest word. One big Sorry might just pave the way for my friend Paul Dennett to help him get to sit in your seat. But you have to mean it 100%. Or maybe Jeremey Corbyn may get to tell you he was thinking of you when he wrote his 15 failures speech used after the Chancellor's budget yesterday. Nice to think our departing Mayor has inspired something. |

| Why have the Star got in in for our beloved Mayor? the Thousands of jobs created,the crime free streets the reduced community charge,the openess of the council,councillors only being paid the base allowances,the safety barriers protecting our people from flooding,the hundreads of affordible homes,the safety net to cover our sick and elderly,why Salford star, are you the pupets of the Union? hang on who put the Labour Parties press statement next to my laptop!!! swines. |
